If Carlton keep pick 1, then they'll take him, they need mids they don't need Lukotias they've got Curnow and McKay.

Given Adelaide's determination to get Lukotias, Pick 2 could be really valuable. If Adelaide were certain that they'd get Lukotias with Pick 2, they'll trade their 2 first rounders and a player for it. Anyway I don't think we'll get 2, our pick will be 3 to 5 or 6 at a strech.

People are forgetting that Carlton will more than likely get a priority pick so they will have 1 and 2. They are being typical arrogant Carlton and saying they don't need it, but they will probably remain on 4 points - maybe 8.

I'm tipping the AFL will give it to them.

They won't pick 2 as a compo pick.

They'll get a pick after their second round pick like Brisbane did.

Please don't trade pick 2 for 8 and 10 ( eg) .Look at Melbourne lost Kelly ( although Roos says they would have taken billings ) ( we could have had Kelly ahhh) and got Salem and Dom Tyson and a pick being Jayden Hunt. Hunt and Tyson are in the 2's . Salem is solid but not silk like Kelly , or even Billings.

WE need silk

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Parkeysainter.
Pick 6 is not as good as pick 2 especially in this draft.
1 and 2 are probably the best in a decade.
It is not without reason that pick 6 is valued at only 70% of pick 2.
The difference is an early 2nd round pick.
As for attracting players they will not be coming to a bottom 5 team because they like the team's prospects.
They will come for the money and only for the money.

Ever heard of De Goey and Stephenson? Both went pick 5 and are starring at Collingwood.
Dangerfield went pick 10. Selwood pick 7. Plenty of other examples which show the top 10 can be a lottery.

Who cares if players just come for money. The Saints have alot of good kids under 25 coming through. We aren't that bad a destination considering Moorabbin is up and running. Footy players lives are short, they need security also.

So I am not kidding anyone Mr Ace.

Kelly went pick 2 but instead we watch Billings at pick 3.
If you have superior recruiting staff you can get talent at lower picks but with our recruiters you need extra help.
They got Riewoldt at 1
They got Goddard at 1
They even stuffed up with McCartin at 1.
At 6 they are just guessing.

Apart from you having Melbourne at 9th (which would be gold ... again!) - I can't see where you get Carlton winning another game. GCS will smack them off the park this week and thereafter, they have GWS, Freo, Dullbogs and Adelaide. The BrownBaggers are truly are VFL standard at present.

My predictor has us as 17th (as much as it pains me to say) as I can't see us winning another game this year (maybe the Bulldogs but that's likely to be injury dependent on both sides)

Agree. I did it on my phone and didn’t mean to give Carlton a win.

have to disagree regarding the value of picks. Of course pick 2 is more valuable than pick 6, dumb to say otherwise. If you don't use it correctly then that's on you not the pick number. OF course you can cherry pick players at various picks and say they should have gone earlier but that is easy in hindsight.

Plus you have to factor in club needs. Jack Lukisous is rated #1 in certain polls and Walsh #2. But what does Carlton need more, a gun forward or a mid. that will determine the #1 pick. And it is highly probable that who ever goes #2 could be better than #1. And then there is the coaching staff. Who can tap the talent best. Given the choice would you rather have Clarkson or Richo so that plays a factor.

Seems possible. If we don't win again (possible) and suns beat blues (likely) they jump us and go to 20 points. Later in the year Suns play Brisbane. If Lions get up they also go to 20 points, leaving us with either Lukious or Walsh. Prefer Walsh but will take Lukious in a heart beat.

Surely they won't get 1 & 2, more like 1 & 19. And the AFL shouldn't give it to them, unless they give one to us, Gold Coast & Brisbane. Carlton have played finals more recently, where would be the justification for just giving Carlton one?

There has been talk they would get pick 2 also because they are struggling so much.

If we finish above the Suns they will get two picks before us.
One will be a free agent compensation pick.
The Suns have two chances to win.
Against Carlton and against Brisbane.

How has FA worked out for us so far? How many ready made A grade mids have Saints been able to bring in so far?

Don't think many A grade mids have shifted at all, through Free Agency to any club. Higgins (Nth) is A grade now, but wasn't when he moved. Rockliff? Not really A grade. Can't think of any others without checking. We have done well with Membrey, Roberton, but no mids. Free Agency to date has been a bit of a dud for A graders moving.

I think a chill pill is needed.
Yes these days players move more often. No doubt.
But the media hype is mainly bs.
The rule still holds that most players still stay - e.g. Sloane, McGovern, Kelly, De Goey.
