NO FAREWELL FOR ZAC
The cavalcade of retired players on Grand Final day will be almost as big as the game itself, but one player who won’t be part of it is Zac Dawson.
The Docker and former Saint, who hasn’t played since he was dropped after Round 2, will hang up the boots at the end of the year but according to Ross Lyon, he doesn’t want to make a big deal of it.
“He said, ‘I don’t need to validate my career with a farewell game or jump in a car and go around the MCG’, he goes, ‘It doesn’t interest me, that’s not how I measure myself,’ Lyon said yesterday.
“And we’d prefer to give Sam Collins an opportunity. Clearly Zac won’t be here next year so we don’t need to chew up an opportunity for the sake of it.

Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly..!!
Always thought he copped alot undue criticism for a role player who did his job. Good luck to him and I hope he thrives wktb the next stage of his life
Fortius quo Fidelius means Strength through Loyalty. . . I think
Drop your biases and remember how Zac, for all his foibles, was one of our best players in the 2009 and 2010 finals series.
And, never forget his outstanding effort to spoil a mark (Ablett's?) in the 2009 GF that was heading to Steve Baker - with nobody in front of him - only for Scarlett's toe poke and...............well we all know the rest.
Barring that toe poke we might now be remembering Zac as we do Bob Murray and Brian Sierakowski from '66. Zac was always serviceable for the Saints and is a player who can honestly say he performed, at times, well above expectations. Good luck Zac.
Horror start to his career getting rag dolled by Rocca and had about 20 kicked on him or so it seemed.
Fought back, reinvented at the saints and surprisingly tough.
Got every inch out of himself as a player, really nice guy as well.
Congratulations on a good career Zac, got every reason to be very proud.
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.
Although he was frustrating and unconventional Zac always put his all into the game. Yes he got beaten on occation but more times than not he held his end up.
Good luck for the future.
Zac will be remembered at Hawthorn as a young skinny full back who was taken apart by Anthony Rocca at the start of his career. Several years later he had filled out considerably, and he managed to perform quite well at St Kilda. He was much derided by many of our fans, but generally provided a strong, willing contest. He was also a good kick, and his drop punts, generally kicked on an angle, were long and accurate.
For far too long after Zac followed Ross to Fremantle, our defenders seemed to be undersized. Hopefully Jake, Nathan (and / or ultimately Hugh), will fill this void for years to come.
