a coaches holiday- or was it..... ( article)

going to great heights to learn about control
It was a journey that took him to India for the first time. In October, Richardson checked into an ashram in the foothills of the Himalayas, a retreat largely attended by students of yoga instruction, where the St Kilda coach lived on raw vegetables and vegan curries and studied meditation.

It was the most stark contrast imaginable from the Harvard leadership course he had undergone the previous year and a world away from the intriguing AFL trade period that was unfolding as he rose before dawn each day in a tiny and spartan room for classes that ran from 5.20am through until 7.30 at night.

>>>>>
Having asked his personal assistant Julie Rackstraw to seek out a retreat renowned for its meditative practices as part of a wider two-week trip to India, neither could believe the all-inclusive cost of $400 – until the Saints coach moved into his room and tasted the food.

There were occasions Richardson admitted that he would jump on a motorbike and skip a philosophy class and instead head up into the mountains and behave like a regular tourist. And he did stay in touch with the big news though, most memorably sitting alongside a large and placid cow as he fervently sold the Saints to the departing Collingwood defender Nathan Brown.
good read

My sauces (habenero and hot chilli), tell me that when Richo snuck up to the mountains to do tourist stuff,
That was code for "get a double beef and cheese burger". He's a clever operator indeed.

Great read. Also an interesting insight (from my perspective, at least) about why some make the grade and some don't.

"I never worry about umpires and I never worry about skill errors," he adds. "What's the point of worrying about what you can't control." What does worry him? "People who go outside the plan," he says quickly. "And I can't stand selfishness, in life as in footy."

Richo rarely fails to impress me. I've said it before, I reckon we've got ourselves one heck of a Coach. Hope we keep him for more than 5 years!

this is payback from Caro for giving her the no Saints VFL team story.
personally I think it's probably a pretty big waste of time Richo doing something like this in his time off.
don't ask me why. I don't know... I don't know.... something in the way...

Vegan food kills the brain cells, so let's hope he is back on beef now.

Just worry that with 5 mins to go and the opposition kick a third straight goal to get within a kick of us, the camera will focus on Richo sitting in the box with his arms folded horizontally, eyes closed and lips mouthing some ancient Hindu chant whilst all around there is chaos.

Vegetables kill brain cells now? Seems legit.

Brilliant article. Shows that Richo is striving to get better at his craft. Love the subtle dig at Bucks too.

A.R. - Good on him !

Post: # 1647439Post the dome »

A.R. visits Rishikesh. The same Rishikesh that Jesus is said to have visited & lived at during 'the lost years' or years not mentioned in the New Testament. A.R. comes across as such a nice man that he could possibly attract some divine grace himself.
I still remember A.R. playing for Collingwood in 1992 in the 2nd. elimination final against St. Kilda @ Waverley. Plugger kicked 5, Harvey was our best player. Collingwood finished the season joint first on points (16 wins) but 3rd. on %, Saints finished 6th, 2 games behind in 6th spot.(14 wins).

AR has really improved himself since then and there could be more to come. :D

And the best scenario possible in that game, Collingwood eliminated after finishing equal top on points, beautiful result.
