BLAKE Acres has been dropped twice this season and the message from St Kilda coach Alan Richardson on both occasions was clear.

After Round 1 the youngster was told to sharpen his consistency after fading in the club’s fade out against Port Adelaide.

And after Round 4 the inside midfielder was told to toughen up after admitting he hadn’t gone hard enough in a couple of contests.

agreed - pretty much the whole side went missing in the last and most here blamed the poor NAB preparation
and I would think if you broke down every players actions over a course of a game you would find multiple examples of not going "hard enough"
To me it smacks of scapegoat relegation or there is still more to it

Maybe he thinks this is the way to get the best out of the kid. Who knows. I'm more worried about how we cover the big North forwards with a very undersized backline

My own take, and I could be totally wrong, is that the older players who "faded" are too old to be retrained or taught a lesson.
Bl8cres is part of the future tilt at a flag, so perhaps it's important to show him early, how to dig deep when it's needed.
He might think "not fair, others backed off too!"
But him being the future, needs to learn while he's young.
