Richmond named Sam Lloyd (182cm) as FF tonight. I wouldnt lose any sleep over it. Obviously we are going to play Roo and Bruce fwd the whole game this week.

If McCartin was playing then we would consider pushing Roo on to a wing.

Lloyd was playing at Mornington in the MPNFL not too long ago... Then went to Frankston... Then Rookie

Not all players must come through the TAC Cup
He's very handy

Richmond named Sam Lloyd (182cm) as FF and Carlton Matthew Wright (178cm) for tonight's game. I wouldnt lose any sleep over it. It is just a trend .

Obviously we are going to play Roo and Bruce fwd the whole game this week as our key marking targets.

If McCartin was playing then we would consider pushing Roo on to a wing.

If a player does not contribute either way and only defends, basically you're a man down and it gets exposed.

A lock down player is a rarity... Unless they can be a threat offensively when required.
So what are you saying the game is the same as it was 150 years ago? I pretty much thought this was the role of any football player from any era.
Never mind I have no doubts that this was the role of any forward to play the game ever.

Modern day footy has introduced the lock down player where were virtually playing a backman in the forward line. And although this too may be coming to an end were still using it. Lock it in the forward 50 and stop a goal against the tide or create a flood, are we trying to play specialists in this area? Could you name any?

No

For years, because players weren't fit and didn't rotate there was no way we could have players covering 3/4 of the ground in continual motion.

Players were stationed in lines.... And became positional..these days . Specialists are seen as one dimensional and if they are not producing are a liability.

If you employ a tagger, or a defensive forward and they are not negating, then what can they do?

In the professional era, we have got fitter, leaner, and faster.... So we can press on a football field like a basketball court. Surely you know that. There are very few specialists... About 5 in every team (ruck, deep key fwd, small fwd, deep key back, small defender), and it's good if they too are flexible. The rest have a starting point, but then run to attack, or run to defend. It's pretty simple... The more they can run to congest or run to spread the better they can move the ball or defend the ball.

Look from the third tier of Etihad at any stoppage..... Starting position, either inside or out, either locked on or defensive side and your role depends on what happens at the stoppage.

We really lack quality key position players, obviously why they recruited the druggo.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

What is the story with Sinclair? Last named interchange. I really liked the look of him last season. Barely wastes a disposal and loves a goal

Disposals are the issue. He doesn't get enough of them atm.

Let's hope he gets on top of that quick. He's a classy player

Would much prefer 10-12 quality disposals from Sinclair than 18 butchered ones from a Weller, Wright or Geary.

Tony said he can be loose on his man and they want him to tighten up. I don't think he even played VFL last week so he might have a niggle and be a bit underdone. Gresham might have his spot this week. No panic. It's that classic second year thing where first year they play you to your strengths but then they want you to work on other sides of your game to become more well rounded as teams will work you out if you only have one facet to your game.

He wont be playing too many games in our midfield with those numbers. Needs to find more footy.

Great to see Gresham selected for Round 1.

But why was Goddard not selected?

When higher possession players have the ball, the opposition do not.

Players who don't get the footy enough are a liability. Just as players who turn the pill over are...

Geary getting 18 at 50% vs Sinclair 12 at 75% have the same amount of effective possession
But if you think about it, an ineffective possession still outweighs an opposition possesion

Disagree completely as turnovers are costly.

The opposition possession that eventuates is worth much more.

Turnovers eventuate in a high proportion of scores because the team (that lost the ball) is caught out of position between attack and defence mode.

He cant take a trick:

Nab 1- Paddy goes down in Q1 - forced to move Lee fwd
Nab 2 - Wash-out
Nab 3 - Not picked.

Mark my words.... Templeton is back to the form you saw in those very early days. Absolutely flying.
