Rooey and selection games....

Post: # 1565854Post saintspremiers »

What's all this horseshit about Roo being a chance to play vs. the Dees?

He clearly played injured last week as it was Maddie's match.

But that is done and dusted and clearly he needs a spell to get his calf right.

Anyone who's injured their calf muscle (I've had a grade 2 tear once) knows they are buggers to get right and it takes a while to heal properly.

I really hope he plays. Will sum up some of your threads. Can you tell us all what grade his tear is Doctor saintpremiers?

He had a bit of a run around yesterday and believe it or not his calf is in better nick than the same time last week. He'll give it a pretty good go tomorrow.

Assuming Roo plays on next year, anyone think he will go in in 2017?

Depends on how much he misses next year - I suspect he'll have to deal with more soft tissue injuries.
Touch'n'go IMO.

I will rely on the doctors and the champion player himself to make the call, not someone on an internet forum.

I know you missed it saintspremiers because you left by 3/4 time but Roo was one of the best in the 4th quarter.

Maybe sticking around for the whole game you may have seen that

Hope they err on the side of caution, a further tear would make our tough end of the year a lot tougher.

Thanks for the update Tony. I'm not surprised he is in a better place than this time last week. He would not have played if he was carrying any sort of muscle 'strain' last week. There is no way you can launch for marks/land/any sort of high level performance with a calf 'strain', you don't need to be asports doc to figure that out. The fact he ran out the game and didn't 'reinjure' whatever he 'injured' in the first place was the best sign he'll be fine.

But he did have a strain which they confirmed via a scan...

Pretty sure he wouldn't have played if it wasn't for the occasion.

His opponent Chaplin said he was on one leg, but got through the game on footy smarts.

Are you serious. I would report the post but you obviously have some issues that need attending straight away for the sake of the family. Disgusting thing to say about anyone. Weak as water because if I have a go back I am certain to get a warning because people as weak as you would dob me in. Get help.

I hope he gets up and helps us win this week.
I would love to keep our streak over Melbourne alive.
I hope Roo plays on into 2017 but playing injured won't help

Thanks. But I had an unpredictable 3 yr old with me. Love twilight fixtures. And no, I had to take him along.

The first 3 qtrs were great. I should've seen a 6 goal to nothing qtr coming up. What was I thinking??

Glad Roo ran it out OK but I fear a proper tear if he's not careful. That's why I want him to have a week off - I still think we can beat the Dees without him.

It was a cut that caused some of the problem last game.

From saints.com:

"NICK Riewoldt is expected to be fit to play against Melbourne in round 17, but will first have to pass a fitness test on Thursday.

St Kilda’s skipper was visibly hampered late in Sunday’s 16-point loss

to Richmond, not due to any soft tissue calf complaint but rather a cut to his leg that occurred earlier in the game.

“Nick obviously got through the game ok after going in with a bit of a calf strain,” Head Physiotherapist Andrew Wallis told SAINTS.com.au.

“Just prior to half-time he copped an accidental studding to the leg on that same calf from an opponent. He’s pulled up really well and we will do what we did last week and test him.”

“If he gets through training on Thursday then he will be available for selection."
