Jeremy Taylor

Post: # 1515091Post damienc »

I am interested in trawling for the collective wisdom here on this guy.

Ex Gold Coast Suns and dumped at the end of 2014 and now training with the Saints.

Now of course, training is the operative word. Just because he is training with St Kilda is no guarantee of anything.

But....if you look closely at his pedigree you would have to say we might be interested. He is a 191 centimetre defender who can play small or tall but didn't play a single game for the Suns this year.

Played all his footy in the twos but in a pretty mediocre reserve side Taylor was a star averaging almost 24 possessions per game.

He is described as an aerobic tank absolutely elite fitness levels which means he can run all day. Has played as a tagger and got the job on Ryan O'Keefe and performed admirably. Wise heads might be able to confirm this but he also played on Milney and did quite a good job in either 2012 or 2013.

Sounds like another player starved of opportunity. You would have to say he's a guy that ticks a few boxes for us?????

far better option than the others training with us......this guy has never really had an injury free opportunity.......suns were willing to keep him on their rookie list too...

Simpkin's too small at 191 to play tall, why would this guy be any different? Really long arms?

Simpkins arms are the height of 187 person but his head makes him 191.

"Who play small or tall" is quite possibly the most often used incorrect statement in footy.

Very rarely can anyone actually do this. At that height, if they are are on a genuine good tall forward they will get monstered, and if on a nimble small will be left for dead.

Fisher goes ok on tall forwards, but not te really good ons is found out against the genuine smalls.

Dempster goes ok on smalls, great on mediums, but poor on talls.

Max was one of our better mediums re versatility.

Role with us could be as an outside runner. Could be an excellent rooki pick.

Last years AFL prospectus gives him a fair old whack. " Taylor was a poor ball winner for a general defender while also recording the lowest kick to handball ratio of any player at the club. He also averaged the fewest meters gained per game of any defender in the AFL..." Maybe lots of stamina but missing the actual game day skills?

I know nothing about the bloke, but it is almost definitional that if you have a lot more handballs than kicks that you are not gunna gain a lot of yards for your team. With numbers like what you quoted disposal efficiency would be important to help judge him. If he's getting the pill and giving off to someone else that might be useful.

Sounds like a spud

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

By the same token disposal efficiency is higher the more handballs you have, so that would be misleading. Much harder to miss a target over three metres than over fifty-three.
