One suggestion for troll identification which may or may not work depending on the number of new members and the availability of Mods.......post preview. A certain number of a new posters posts do not go live until they are approved by a Mod.

Not ideal though, as if too much time goes by, the relevancy of the said post could be in doubt. But it worked at a previous forum I worked on. Never got spammed or trolled. Can discourage some genuine posters though.

Yes . I had lots of NEGATIVE PMs about the prospect of nominations for MODS and any form of election! So that is off the table

I am working on getting extra MODS ... but nobody is keen to be the subject of the abuse MODS receive around here. Shame.

Simon, a simple way around the abuse of Mods problem is to have the Mods be a 'Mod Squad' as such but have a generic Mod name. Mod 1, Mod 2, etc. Then they can carry on being a normal poster without receiving the abuse personally. They would act like a Mod robot, just implementing the rules.

Of course, this will lead to the guessing games of 'guess the Mod' but nothing is perfect! But at least it takes the personality clashes out of the equation.

Agree. And that person would have to have the thickest skin of all as he/she will be copping it for everyone. Double edged sword.

don't agree with that suggestion...should be open for all to see...i still haven't forgotten...or forgiven the mod who let one poster abuse others with impunity....the abuser joked that he used to drink with the mod...they actually sit together at the footy ...or so i'm told.....

I just remember reading that soon we would be voting on mods and that admin would pick another admin.

My views have been unpopular and I was quite upset by the personal attacks more or less saying I wasn't welcome to post here. So - just to say, when you're on the receiving end it's not 'fun' at all. I welcome anything that can stop the bullying and let us all say what we think. Because that's what's fun!

And that situation shouldn't be able to occur. Basically the Mod should operate robotically....they see a transgression, they apply the rules, they move on. The cite what has transgressed, what rule is being applied and that's it. There should be no arguing the point, no personality conflicts, no grey areas.

Once an ordinary poster is the Mod, previous history gets involved or someone who is pro-GT might not want to listen to a anti-GT person. If you make them anonymous but accountable to an overall Mod, then things will get done and the personality conflicts would not exist.

But like everything, I accept that nothing is perfect. Like anything, you need the right people in the right positions.
