I guess he has to play back. They've named Patton (197cm) and Cameron (194cm), and presumably Brogan (201cm) and Giles (200cm) spend some time down there so we'll need three talls defenders - Roberton not quite big enough?

And someone's got to spell McEvoy in the ruck, last week Maister did some of it which isn't ideal.

Still, surprised Simpkin wasn't given a chance ahead of him.

Interesting re Hickey. Maybe didn't come up through his fitness test.

he is listed for Sandringham

Great news about Wright and Lee.

Lee has got very good hands and is very mobile and will add another dimension to our forward line. Wright looks like a no-nonsense style footballer, with an ability to break away quickly from a contest.

I am quietly confident that both will play more than 10 games each this year.

Tom Hickey has been named in the Vfl Side in the ruck and Farren Ray has been named in the back pocket for the VFL.

GWS are at $4 (bet responsibly, i.e. don't back the Saints).

That's one third of the team, and none played under
Lyon at St Kilda

Watters is true to his word.
Add to that the fact that guys who were predominantly Sandy players under Lyon in Steven and Stanley and even Armo to a lesser extent are walk up starts. Siposs was only a first year too and barely played.

Well we at least know Stanley is playing back this week and Blake is second ruck because there is no other logical reason blake can play. The question is where does Blake play when not rucking.

I would think he might line up on Patton. He's too big for most of our backs. maybe the ruck chop out will come from elsewhere. No Dempster means an open backline spot.

If that is the case our club is stuffed. If he isnt rucking then Simpkin should play.

Agree plugs.

It's idiotic and irresponsible to play Blake ahead of emerging talent that is Simpkin.

It's only round 2.... Lets wait until R12 before making a call on a 200 game club great.

He played some outstanding footy in 2012... He may have even picked up his first ever Brownlow votes?

Hit 20 touches a few times... Nah, too early to retire him... He is obviously a better option than any of the kids...

And why can't Simpkin and Blake play in the same side

Simpkin is keeping himself out I reckon

I'd be happier if Simpkin and Ray were in.
Is Newnes really better than Ray?? I think not. Not now anyway.
We need the Faz.
I guess Blake might be there to ruck. But I'm dying for Simpkin to get in there amongst them.

I'm not sure why we've brought in another tall forward this week. We took a lot of marks I50 last week and we won the ground level ball. I'm not sure why you mess with that mix. We've got Stanley if we lose a tall forward or ruck to injury. I also don't think we need either of Blake or Simpkin at this point. Fisher, Roberton and Stanley is fine. Gilbert can play back if needed. I just don't see the need for all these marginal talls. Games aren't won by mediocre tall forwards who don't get kicked to because we kick to Roo 20-30 times a game.

I'd like to see Blake and Lee out for Dunell and Ray, but I won't hold my breath.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

If these two were ever going to play this year it was going to start this week against GWS. They will be in and out but will be doing well to be playing 12 games this year.

I'm amazed that Blake held his spot ahead of Simpkin. McEvoy can ruck for almost the entire game and Stanley could pinch hit with Fisher, Simpkin, Gilbert and Roberton taking the talls between them.

Still, I'm very pleased that Wright gets his debut and glad we'll at least be able to see if Lee can give us a few signs to show us he's worth persevering with.

Simpkin missed a heap of footy his fitness program will probably dictate how long he builds up before playing seniors. Lee doesn't play tall, he's like what you would get if you mixed Milney with Gilbert.
