Should we trade picks with gold coast

Seems they may need to move on several players aged 20 , should we consider trading for a couple? I think Pelchen could work his magic here
The current Gold Coast list features 23 players born in 1992.

The Suns were granted an increased list size for their entry to the AFL, but must reduce their senior roster from 46 to 42 ahead of the 2013 season.

As per League rules, the second-year club must also make room for three picks in November's NAB AFL Draft.

And it will also need to cull an extra player to allow 17-year-old mini-draft pick-up Jaeger O'Meara, who is playing for the Suns' reserves this year, to officially join its list.

With the already departed Nathan Krakouer still counted as one of the 46 players on the club's books, it means Gold Coast will need to cut its current group of 45 to 38 before the draft.

Josh Caddy is the most high-profile Sun out of contract at the end of this season.

The No. 7 draft pick sought a trade to Essendon at the end of 2011.

Although recently declaring he is happier this year, he has put contract talks on hold.

The Suns have signed Caddy's fellow 2010 first round draft picks David Swallow, Harley Bennell, Tom Lynch and Sam Day until the end of 2014, as well as 2011 rising star nominee Brandon Matera, and O'Meara.

Several others, including Victorians Trent McKenzie and Dion Prestia, are signed until the end of 2013.

There is nothing to stop the club from trading players who are in contract.

Gold Coast must continue to reduce its list size over the next two years, to 40 in 2014 and the AFL-standard 38 by 2015.

Cracking thread! Never even though that they would have to drop so many players so early! This could be a big coupe for teams looking for some still young bargain players.. really hope Pelchen can work some magic if there are any he thinks can be of good value to us

So it kind of works itself out in the end.

Both the Suns and Giants absolutely pillage a few years however clubs are able to get players probably a tad cheaper anyway through the new teams' need to cull lists dramatically.

Maybe this was the thought process of the AFL? If so they should be commended as I certainly like the idea of adding a young player or two that has already been a few years in the system and is up to standard.

also, really shows how much better GWS' approach has been, have a super young squad, with super old guys there to mentor, then as they need to slim down their list, just let the old blokes retire!

You have to think that this would of been in the back of their minds when giving them so much and if all goes well it could really help the game in a time of bursting salary caps and uneven bottom half teams. If you think about it, it has given them a great avenue to offload ready made players for draft picks or players in order to help age there lists with not just sub par players.

If we can get a decent ruck option, sure. Won't land Smith or Gorringe, but might be able to lure Hickey or Nicholls.

that shouldn't be hard. i don't know their list very well, but surely there are quite a few suns who haven't been getting games because they're not very good?

these guys from their original list haven't played this year:

lewis moss
piers flanagan
tom nicholls
taylor hine
jacob gillbee
liam patrick
hayden jolly
jack hutchins
daniel gorringe

some of them are probably injured or something, but finding a few to cut who haven't made the grade shouldn't be a massive problem for them. i'm not sure they'll need to trade at all. and if they did, would we want guys who can't get a game with gold coast?

I'm going to sound like GT but I would raid a state league 25 yo ruck and try to steal the best available from GWS GC and free agents. Mike Sikora looks like he wants to play these days and would be a handy pick up and not break the bank. 206 cm basketball background so should be able to jump sounds like he's working harder these days.

We should definitely be looking at all the kids from GWS and GC because they aren't going to be able to keep them all. Key position players they'll probably keep but we should be looking for midfielders to add to the young core of Armo, Steven, Ledger, Newnes, Ross etc.
