Two points.

TS was booed at the 2004 Wizzy Cup by our own supporters. Sitting at the game with my Bulldogs supporting bro-in-law listening to that was one of the most embarrassing times I have ever had as a Sainst supporter.

I think thats why I get so defensive towards our scapegoats like Raph. I really detest gutless supporters who do things like boo a player who has just help us win a very rare cup of any kind

As for Lyon supposedly "shafting" TS. Umm ALL coaches "shaft" players. Watters will "shaft" players. A bit revisionist to have a go at Lyon when he was doing the job he was paid to to, i.e. get us to a GF so we can have a shot at a flag.
Do you know why he was booed?

Does anyone know what his new role at St.Kilda is to be?

This thread makes me recall a player from 80s, Paul Temay.

He was a good honest player like TS.

I will always remember that one day at Moorabbin when there was a banner hung on the fence below the scoreboard that read "Paul Temay Can't Play"

I was rather appalled by this although I believe it was later revealed to be the work of some of his mates and was really just a stir.

And Paul Temay wore #40 also

IIRC, there were a few incidents throughout the game where he made quite bad mistakes and me thinks we ran away from our opponents after he was benched.
Don't think his game was too bad to be honest.

In a lot of ways, he's comparable to Raph but wasn't as good... making some poor decisions that really stood out and looked poor with supporters always remembering them.

JB as for my comment of shafting it, don't twist the topic around. I'm not suggesting that TS40 was shafted because he was cut.
Players get cut. It's a fact of life.

A player like A. Smith for example has a couple of years on the list, never really shows much, disposal remains poor and doesn't get much AFL time coz his form doesn't warrant it... hence he's cut. That's ok.

A player like W. Johnson on the other hand shows reasnoable form in the VFL as a forward, the AFL team needs a key forward all season and somehow he never gets selected. Then he is cut. Too me, that's not as clear. Or say a Barry Brooks never plays whilst Doc Clarke plays 15 mediocre games... again not as clear cut.

Whilst I don't know the coaches rationale, based on what I can see, I don't like the thought process there

TS40's delisiting was abrupt and a surprise to most of us at the time as he survived the initial round of axings and was cut after the drafts IIRC. The feeling was that he returned to training unfit and was made an example of. IMO he was too talented for that kind of a dismissal and a greater example would have been made if he was forced to catch up and earn his spot back.

I probably watch it once a month lol, seriously one of my fondest memories.

Extremely happy with this appointment. Hope he still has the same hair.

Very under rated player. He could hit a target 60m away, without the ball getting above 5m elevation.

Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

the second table on this page ( http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/play ... warze.html ) shows his best totals in each category. 3 goals was the best he did (unless it was a pre-season match).

He was good enough to make it to that level but not really good enough to become a permanent fixture. Raph reminds me of him a bit in that you can't question his courage or skills, but it's the decision making and ability to produce when under the pump.
Having said that, Banger said not long after Schwarze kicked the winner against the Lions that he knew it was going through as soon as it left the boot because he was one of the best kicks at the club.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Good time to be a player who was 'retired' by ross, jobs going left right and centre.
