TWO favourite Saints, Max Hudghton and Aaron Hamill, are returning to the club in specialist coaching roles.
Continuing the overhaul of St Kilda's coaching structure, they join strength and conditioning manager Josh Low as recent appointments.

An announcement is expected today that Hudghton and Hamill will fill part-time roles.

I agree. Really happy with this news.

Always thought Maxy was a chance given he worked so closely with Watters at Pies. Sounds like it will be a similar part time role

Bit surpised about the Hamill one but very pleased. Always been one of my favs. Didn't know he was interested in coaching...maybe just dipping his toe in the water in a part time capacity. Great to have him back.

Article also says we will be appointing a part time midfield coach.

In terms of full time line coaches - one more to be appointed...is that correct??

An outstanding and popular defender for 234 games, Hudghton played seven games in his final year, with coach Ross Lyon preferring Zac Dawson as his first-choice full-back.

What a ridiculous move that proved!

There is absolutely no comparison between the two!!

Another opportunity awaits!

It might have had something to do with Max being injured most of the year and showing a tendency to reinjure himself whenever he came back.

Bingo. I think when he was playing with Dawson he looked a bit at sea as he was not playing his customary full-back position and he had to kick the ball a little more than usual and then...yeh....turn-over central.

Not convinced about Hammer.

He has been out of the system a few years now and could be too behind to be effective. Champion player and on field leader though, so who knows ?

How dare he get a job!
Thats not the point its the way he reacted when the pies won, look at Luke Ball for example he respected his former team mates after the siren.

You spend a few years out of your chosen profession of 15 years to give other business ventures a try and are told you are too far behind the 'system' to be effective. Gee one would believe you would not take it too well.

Forward pressure always has a place. Look at the lucklustre McQ who received another contract due to it. Trouble is his was perceived and he couldn't tackle a 3 year old child compared to Hamill and his real pressure.

Great to have the both of them back.

I'd make Max the forwards coach and Hammer defensive coach.

saintspremiers - maybe some blokes might be "behind the times" after being out of the game for a while ... but not Aaron Hamill.

Aaron Hamill played in a way that was 10 years AHEAD of the times. To quote David Parkin on ABC radion in 2005: "Aaron is possibly the best defensive forward to ever play the game, the best defensive forward I have seen".

What has the game evolved to be about over the last 2-3 years?

Defensive forwards, defensive pressure in the forward line.

Sammy will fit in perfectly 8-)

IF HAmill had of played in 2009 and 2010 we would have now 3 Premiership cups. Imagine him instead of McQualter or Eddy as the defensive forward

I think Older Saint meant (and correct me if I'm wrong Older Saint) that he thinks we'd have 2 more premiership cups if we had Aaron Hamill in his prime playing in the 2009/10 seasons, and not Aaron Hamill as a shot 32 & 33 year old. Because as you say Clarky, he WAS shot. And I agree Older Saint, those years would have suited Hamil to a tee! If only he was fit and firing for a few more seasons...

Yeah, If Hammil's body was still up to it he would of been a great asset during though's years.

If they're in it to help us win a flag this year; Great.
If they're in it for the $ eff them off.

Aarron's 5 year contract sinked us so that we couldn't afford the players we needed and Maxie's knowledge of our playing style allowed the pies to exploit our game plan to beat us for the flag.

Welcome back boys (on conditions)

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.
