Scott Watters Radio Interview Summary
Just quick run down on each of the interviews. Havent really done SEN as he is just repeating what he said in previous 3 interviews!!
Scott Watters on Triple M this morning:
Had BBQ with some of the players yesterday. Was good to see where they were at.
Wants to embrace the community, and wants players to enjoy their footy. Thinks opening up to community will brings enjoyment back.
Wont be releasing shackles completely, you need good defensive structures, will just be tweaking.
Talking to Harvs straight away. Is very much a required coach and if he wants to stay the door is very much open. Eddie confirmed that Collingwood have been in discussions with him.
On RSN:
Two years down the track is probably ahead of where he thought he would be. But believes is well prepared to be where he is. Wanted a broad experience before coming a senior coach. Thinks working in media,
Some absolute A-Graders and some absolute talent that is just starving for some exposure. Needs to be injection of youth. Will be some opportunity.
Saints defensively have to be admired. Have some work to do offensively.
Only Robert knows if he will stay. Would love to have him there, at end of day its his decision. If he feels opportunity is best served elsewhere they wont hold it against him.
Elite kicking skill, needs some players that can hit a target. Pace thru midfield isnt such a worry as thinks few kids have that.
Malthouse, if he wanted to be involved he would love to have him as director as coaching. If he approached the club saying he would like to be involved Watters wouldnt have any hesitation in getting him aboard.
On TradeWeekRadio
Not sure how heavily Saints will be in trades today. Have clear understanding on what we are looking for.
Gram, Dawson, Ray are all required players, have a major role going forward. You can take that as they are off table
Process wasnt too long, was extensive process. Very happy to be thru it
Us vs them mentality can really wear the playing group down. Need to enjoy footy again. Wont be losing defensive mentality. Want to be apart of broader community.
Admired this playing group in past 2-3 years. Admired their resilience. Playing group is up & about. Thinks playing group thinks they can rise again.
Tommy Walsh - Highly rate him, has outstanding leadership capabilities. Needs to play. He is categorically off the table. Can see him playing a hell lot of football. That doesnt mean in 2 years time, next year. But having said that needs to earn his right to play.

This could be the thing that re-juvenates them the most. Fantastic to hear.

Of course but the coaches' comments were from this morning and at that stage St Kilda had been dealing with Sydney for days and Walsh had made it clear to club last week that he planned to leave. Disingenuous nonsense from Watters... no harm done but why did he bother?SainterK wrote:Seriously?Hemi Baxter wrote:Great comments about Walsh! What an experienced liar. Bodes well for years of spin ahead.
He said Walsh was required, off the table.
Walsh didn't want to be required, put himself on it or he walks.
For all you know Watters could of held a meeting with Walsh late this morning.Hemi Baxter wrote:Of course but the coaches' comments were from this morning and at that stage St Kilda had been dealing with Sydney for days and Walsh had made it clear to club last week that he planned to leave. It's not over until it's over.
Edit
New senior coach, Scott Watters, spoke to Tommy at length this morning to assure him of the opportunity for him at St Kilda which came on the back of a new contract offer and elevation to the primary list.
“The Club, and no doubt Saints supporters, are disappointed but every effort was made to convince Tommy to stick around.â€

Walsh is getting paid double what the Saints offered him. So without knowing what our offer was but id assume we would have offered $200-$250K to try and keep him. That means Sydney is paying him $400-$500K... Theres no way in hell we could afford that unless we ripped the core of our team to shreds.

If they are paying him that much they are mental. I doubt it though.stkildathunda wrote:Walsh is getting paid double what the Saints offered him. That's where the lack of senior games stuffed things.stkildathunda wrote:Walsh is getting paid double what the Saints offered him. If he'd played a few in 2011 we may have been able to justify a higher offer.
Conversely, depending on how he went, Sydney may have offered less or not even bothered.

Watters said he was offered double the contract we put to him... Im only guessing but if we were dead keen to keep him we would have offered him at least $200K. Seems ridiculous but this is what Sydney have history of doing to young talent.SaintPav wrote:If they are paying him that much they are mental. He wanted to leave so let him leave, pick 35 & 68 seems ok for someone who pulled out one decent game (6 Goals).....stkildathunda wrote:Watters said he was offered double the contract we put to him...
