To me sounds like Steven won't be playing before the bye. 'Niggles' as it was put and others have gotten in front of him. Possible attitude problem?

And Stanley will be playing Rnd 1. Hutchinson soundly quietly but firmly v. impressed with Stanley's last few weeks.

Cripps big chance for Rnd 1 it would SEEM, but get the feeling that also might be 'talk up the kids' stuff. Who would Cripps replace?

I was surprised when Hutchy said Rhys Stanley had just done his PB bench press of 135 kg !
That is a fair bench press and one I wouldn't have thought his frame would
handle.

Hopefully this gives him a new found strength in the body to body stuff as
he has been brushed aside a bit up until now.
It'll certainly be useful if he does come along in this dept with the late start
to the season for Kosi and Gardy.

Your core strength is more important to holding your ground than your upper body strength.

Correct. But in saying that if hes got his bench press up to 135kg it would be fair to say hes done a heap of work through his hips and legs.

Agreed. However I would suggest the bench pressing is a part of of his core strength conditioning. He's not training for a weight lifting competition.

Bench is often used to help tackling, and even marking. Not marking as in the contest, but the actual action of grasping the ball. Being strong across the upper body prevents the arms being moved easily by the opponent.

I just hope he's being watched by someone!

Plenty of guys let their ego get in the way when doing weight training, and for some reason become obsessed with how much they can bench.
What you can end up with, is a dude with a barrel chest and legs that can't support it!

Then they either get injured, or lose their balance and/or pace.

I'm sure they'd be onto him though.

We had a guy on our list a few years back who could bench press 175kg and he was a reasonably handy player. A left footer who wore #9 !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Stanley has aways been quite big in the arms and shoulders, it's his skinny legs that need bulking up.

thats true. but 135kgs for a 19/20 year old with long levers is still VERY impressive in its own right.

Lets be realistic here , with kosi and gardi out stanley is an absolute dead cert for round 1. forget all this blake, archer crap. no way the coach will go in with only one ruckman. archer just too short. plain and simple and blake is like 189cm. sure he can fill in a few minutes here and there. but not for 40 mins.

ledger is a serious chance to debut. one of him or cripps i reckon.

I reckon Ledger has absolutely no chance of debuting.

None.
