Re: The Jigging Saint

The Jiggster can speak for himself, but, as a staunch follow Evertonian, I’m in regular contact with him.

He seems to be doing fine 😊

Re: Former saint Siposs now a lion.

Love it. Was always fond of him as a player. Still remember that first game he played at the G where he belted the ball around 60 metres straight on to the chest of Roo I think and thinking 'Finally someone who can bloody kick.' Good luck to the man. Remember that well. Thought he was going to be a...

Re: How did this team finish 6th?

Could have gone further.

Lost to Melbourne because Gehrig attempted one of his weird run round the man on the mark things and injured his ankle.

Re: One of the worst umpiring displays I have ever seen

Shocking umpiring today, but a real test for the boys and they rose above it. Marvellous to see.

Worst ever, of course, was Don Jolley, Victoria Park, 1970

Re: Paton v McKenzie

Paton will be a player. I like his willingness to take a risk and open the game up. It doesn't come off every time, but when it does it's well worth the risk. We're a better team with him in the 22. Good summation. I'd agree with that - he does take a few more risks than McKenzie. Hoping his develo...

Re: RICHO WALKED OUT ON HIS TEAM

Nicky Winmar injured his AC joint in a final in 1992. The story went round that no-one went to see that he was ok, and that he was taken to hospital without senior accompaniment. In response to criticism at the time, Peter Hudson was quoted as saying that we had a game to win. Times appear to have ...

Re: Can someone teach Gresham to handpass

I know one shouldn't compare sports, and that footy is a multi-skilled game, but this sort of topic always reminds me of a conversation I saw reported by Peter Schwab some years ago, who had recently visited Old Trafford. Schwab: What do you do with players who can't kick? Ferguson: We don't have an...

Re: Frees for and against

We give away 1-2 frees every week for high contact on a player who is already on the ground holding the ball. Beats me why they keep doing it, but you might see it as a a skill error. I can’t remember the last time we gained a free for the same offence.

Re: Barrett, always the saints hater.

I thought the Lonie free was most fortunate but against that 2 contentious decisions late in the second quarter cost us two goals. The dropped mark awarded to the Hawks resulting in a goal and the 50m penalty against Brown for being a few centimetres over the mark which seemed very technical. Also ...

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?

Acres is a class act both in winning the ball and his usage He has been used running the wings from full back to full forward - however I would like to see him in the “guts”, not running wing patterns The one area for improvement, given his size, is his overhead marking which I would like to see a ...
