Interesting when quizzed about the one area of our list he sees as the biggest development priority, his answer was that he'd love another ruckman.

Paraphrasing..

Said focus has been to extend attacking options as this was area he could see before he came in that had most potential for improvement. However, wanted to maintain Saints renowned defensive capability. So is pleased we are one of least scored against teams and sees we are a work in progress going forward.

Rapt with Milera. Thinks he will be top notch afl player within 2 years. Happy with Rhys too. Big responsibility on senior players to nurture younger guys.... because that's where the senior guys chance of a flag lies.

Gilly getting a hard on re Siposs, calling him 'a hard nut'. Grant an even bigger stonker about Jack Steven saying he has gone to an even higher level this year. Watters said he's just getting up to 50 games so becoming more experienced now (only 35 actually). Quick and compared him to Dane Swan with his strength, running style...

Jack playes exactly the same as swanny glad to hear the coach thinks the same.
Even more convinced we should get an out of contract ruckman especially if we loose a star and have money in the SC

How we didn't get a ruckman at end last year is a mystery

Lever will never be a ruckman - he will be a key forward if he makes it. Is pencil thin and plays like it I struggle to see what the recruiters saw in him to be honest!

Finally someone at the club has admitted we need another ruckman - Watters appears honest at least!

All comes down to $$ I would imagine. Obviously knew we would be playing a 3 Tall forward line and decided we needed cheap cover for it (Wilkes) over another ruckman.

Who do we have that can play ruck... Big Mac, Stanley, Kosi, Blake...

I liked his attitude when quizzed about taking Wilkes off last weekend.

It's why I wonder about McCauley…

He would only be on 50K as a rookie?

Maybe we thought that he would get to our second rookie pick?

Can't believe the Hawks took him and Pattison…

They now have about 6 ruckmen, we have 1 ready + Stanley who I would not like to see take the ruck for a whole match at this stage… although is showing good signs.

Seem to recall a few on here banging on about us not picking up Broc McCauley.

But I notice that after playing last week, Broc will be watching this game from the stands like the rest of us 8-)

2012 Rookie Draft

12 Sam Dunnell St Kilda

16 Broc McCauley Hawthorn

On what I've seen so far, I can live with that :)

That would be me banging on…

Let's wait and see if Dunny plays a game at AFL level before we call it :)

I just remember McCauley giving Mac a bath last year, so I thought worth a rookie while we are short on rucks…

thought it interesting that Watters said the AFL rep on the boundary gave them the wrong information, told us categorically that it was too late to reverse the substitution. this takes Watters 50% off the hook

The only thing that spooked me was the purple tie he was wearing, memories of a former coach at his first press conference in Perth last year.
He is quite thoughtful about his answers and I appreciate his view we need another ruckman, because they're looking to develop Rhys Stanley as a key position player.

Looks very relaxed and comfortable in front of the media, and has a laugh, thought he handled the Milne question and the Wilkes sub very well. Doesn't look like he is trying to hide anything, but doen't want to give too much away.

Me too.

Dunnel looks to have the makings of a very good footballer.

Just needs some more kilos of muscle and to concentrate for 4 quarters.
