Ok. But yes, he is a super assistant. Brett will get more % out of players each game and on the track. Same as Dan and Billy S (believe it or not). Its a good cultural shift in the right direction nonetheless.

I think this is our best offseason addition so far. Hope he is given the reigns over the pre-season so that he can formulate his own ideas on strengths weaknesses and strategy.

Curious to know if the Data Scientist is getting involved in draft analysis ?. I am interested to see if he brings any tangible benefits.

I’m really not expecting anything from Lade or Slater - so for me anything they contribute is a bonus.

Ratten already sounds about 5 times more intelligent than Richo.
In taking control of the club's ball movement Ratten won't copy what the Hawks did, but will take parts of their game plan.

"There will be an element of Hawthorn, but Hawthorn play like some other teams as well, so I think everyone does it fairly similar, but then there's whether the ball's in your back half or your front half, you might do it a little bit differently," Ratten said.

"Also, some of the philosophies about it – you look at some teams, they have a lot of uncontested marks, and some teams don't have as many.

"It'll be (dependent) on our capabilities as well, what we do with the footy. I'm really looking forward to that.

"There'll be a splash of Hawthorn, but it won't be about Hawthorn. It will be about what St Kilda can do."
Compared to Richo
Be strong at the contest. Be brave. Did I say Strong? Pleasing . Work hard on the track. Do better next week. Repeat. x 1,0000

This caught my attention;

McCartin's come back in ripping nick. He was in at the club today and he's probably dropped about six or seven kilos," Ratten said.

Anyone else spot the problem here?

I had to laugh when I read this about Mccartin! Preseason hasn’t even started and already he’s on the verge of a breakout campaign!! FFS, I don’t care if he came back 200Kgs overweight, it’s how he performs come rounds 1-10 next year! The rest counts for zero!

No.
He must have started out pretty large when he first came to us as he seems to always be dropping kilos at the start of every season.

Sounds like Paddy is trying to emulate Max Gawn who dropped a similar amount last year and improved his mobility out of sight.

Since Clarko supposedly told Ratten that was "too good to be an assistant coach", he's
probably come to Moorabbin on the tacit understanding that he'll take over sooner or
later, possibly by Rd 7 next year or, barring a miracle, by 2020. Possibly Richo will transition to
a Director of Coaching role.

Yes I think I do. He is type 1 diabetic and rapid wait loss means that you are not controlling it well. Oh dear!

1) ratten will be more of a senior co-coach

2)Essentially left because catalyst is Sam Mitchell was returning plus he has 6 years of IP and confidence wich is great for us. He also knows he will be next senior coach at Stk.

3) change and flexibility, innovation is something he will bring with merit to the club - needed!

4)reporter asked him twice why he left hawthorn ffs.

actually is a positive if you are able to loose weight on type 1:

means:

Less insulin intake, improved weight management.
Reducing insulin intake safely. ...
Lower your carbohydrate intake. ...
Lower your protein intake. ...
Increase physical activity. ...
Reduce snacking. ...
Reduce basal insulin gradually

overall an overweight type 1 is not essentially balanced.

Ratten was previously senior coach at Carlton, but said he wasn't thinking about taking up that role again if offered.

"I don't know if it will ever happen again. My focus is just to help Al (Richardson)," Ratten said.

A predictably safe comment. But I am sure he will do any job asked of him and do it well.

So what's the set up?

In the interview they said Ratten was in charge of ball movement, and the forwards.

Who is in charge of the mids?

I cant follow the coaching set up at the saints, No accountability, too many coaches and who knows what they do. Doesn't matter if its Richo or any of the others, Even the director remains unchallenged after 10 years. In the end they said the list was not good enough or words to that effect. Many posters on here believe the list is good enough, I am not one of them though. Ratten will add some nous and leadership but miracles are rare. His appointment also creates a tad of confusion in the belief that he has been appointed to take over from Cho at some stage.

What rubbish, did you ever consider that he may have
1) Changed his diet
2) increased his physical activity (e.g. running0.
or both.
