Freeman still not ready

Post: # 1745109Post saintspremiers »

Even though he got over 30 possies I read on Facie a report from someone at the Sandy game.

In a nutshell, Freezer gets the majority of his disposals standing fairly still and dishing out the ball. Gone is his explosive speed. Basically it appears very few metres gained and would be ineffective at AFL level.

So there you go...sounds like unless something dramatically changes he won’t make it at AFL level.

Richo may select him due to media and public pressure, but it could be under duress.

Would fit in well in the seniors in that case

He looks to be better than a third of the players already playing in the firsts.

Is he a good kick? If so then plonk him in the 1's against the dogs immediately , if not sooner.

I watched most the game yesterday and he got a lot of the ball but he wasn't exactly damaging. He isn't quick anymore so he will be gifted a game then be very lucky if he is not delisted at years end

He kicks the ball all of 17 metres long if not handballing. Maybe the one's will be good for him but otherwise he has to be delisted.

Did you watch how sandy were playing yesterday? When he got the ball there wasn't a chance to explode and run. He can't force something that isn't there. Most stoppages he was playing behind the play. Yesterday's sandy game showed a complete lack of coaching. Box Hill would switch and run whereas we would just chip it around. Doesn't help that most of the Saints players are either; Injured, Somehow getting a game in the 1s or not up to it in the twos. Langlands' work rate is poor, Lamb can't be everywhere, the Sandy blokes just weren't up to it. Seccull missed a sitter from 15m out. I could honestly say Rice, Freeman and Paton were the bright sparks yesterday.

37 touches are 37 touches. You have to have a decent work rate to get up that many touches. He's had more touches in that game than Weller's had in the last 3 weeks of senior footy. Gilbo was torn a new one by Himmelberg, Lonie kicked 2.5 (i include complete misses). Still skeptical on Dmac.

Freezer Should've played against Carlton and be able to build these last 3 weeks but the club is wasting development time. We aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Accept it, play more of the kids and build for next season. Give Freezer a chance to show why he should get a contract next season.

Freeman was BOG for Sandy yesterday. He just kept getting the footy and he can find it. He ran to alot of good spots to get it also. We kicked against the wind for 2 quarters so all the Sandy players were kicking short in those quarters as you do when playing against the wind to maintain posession. His foot and hand skills are very good and 8 out of 10 times I reckon he was actually giving it to someone yesterday. His kicking is precision (especially short and medium distance).

He reminded me alot of the way Rob Harvey used to dispose of the ball. High posession winner and disposed of it well (not many 50 metre kicks though).

Look, he got 37 possessions and has been racking up possessions every week, and kicking goals.
In the event that he doesn't get a senior match this season, as a member, and one of four members in the family, I expect that after this season, players who are out of contract will be looked at, and reasonably expect that all players in this category should have been given ample opportunity to provide evidence of their ability to assist St Kilda FC in their quest to play finals in 2019 (I am not sure that this has happened in Nathan's case, to be honest.)
If they have not shown that ability, then for their benefit and the club's, they should be given every opportunity to ply their trade elsewhere, otherwise it is effectively a restraint of trade.
It isn't fair to re-contract players and then expect them to keep fronting up in the reserves every week, when they could be given more opportunity at another AFL club, or in a local suburban/country competition where the financial recompense is substantially better in many circumstances.

Let's not be rash and rush him in before he is ready.
Another couple of seasons with Sandy should adequately prepare him.

There is no downside to playing him, must get a run in the seniors this week and for the rest of the season to see what he’s got. What else do we have to play for?

I can see it now

Freeman gets delisted and picked up by Collingwood for nothing and goes on to play 200 games and win 3 Premierships

Would be such a St Kilda thing

He will debut...surely this week after a few good weeks and 37 possies. We need to find out whether he and his body is up to it or not for 2019 and beyond.

I think he would go quite well if he ends up playing on Sat night.

It would give the club a boost too.

I agree completely... we SHOULD play him.
But alas , we won't, as Richo's bizarre 'KPIs' formula will never allow for any real old fashioned logic to take hold.

What is Richo's bizarre 'KPIs' forumla? Details please.
Do you also know Richo doesn't pick the entire side on his own each week? There is a selection committee.

Everyone - B.S - you wouldn't have a clue what the meaning of support is. FYI - Sinclair has been pretty good as has Billings since he came back from being dropped. Weller, Gilbert have been ordinary, nothing amazing about that statement

From AFL.com

Nathan Freeman continued to press for a long-awaited AFL debut with another blistering performance in the VFL over the weekend.

Getting closer and closer with each passing week, Freeman racked up 37 disposals and kicked a goal as Sandringham went down to Box Hill by 31 points on Saturday.

Bailey Rice was also good with 23 disposals, while Ben Paton collected 22 touches, but it was Freeman's display that is likely to again garner the headlines this week.

oh OK - since youve hinted at it - I will reveal the Collingwood cunning plan
He is and has been all along a plant
it goers like this
His hammies are perfectly fine - drain medical budget allocation for three years
Drain our precious salary cap resources for three years
Get delisted picked & up by pies with pick 98
Give Buckley all of Richos game plan secrets
(and luckily that equates to the baldrick failure factor)
