McCartin is ranked 46th out of 52 on a similar measure.

There is no way either of these guys would have lasted past pick 30 in either draft.
We were the club unlucky enough to pick them and we used premium picks to get them.
Ouch!

I don't think Angus Brayshaw is doing much better than Billings who are both third pick selections. Brayshaw dropped ahead of last weeks game and not in this week and not an emergency. Only averaging 63 fantasy points per game. Similar size to Billings but more of an out and out midfielder.

Since the rebuild started about 4 years ago our recruiters have done a great job apart from the 2 most critical picks. Pick 1 Paddy and pick 3 JB. We will look back on this stuff up in 10 years time and admit it cost us at least 2 premierships.

I don't think we "stuffed up" pick 1 at all but its getting increasingly clearer that we butchered pick 3. However in all honesty, at the time I would have made the exact same selection

Never thought Brayshaw was that good.
Hyped up because of family connection/media.
Looked like a kid who would peak early with a low ceiling.
Not in the same class as Heeney form that draft.

McCartin and Billings will both be okay. Give Paddy time. Good clubs develop players with raw talent. I think Billings is getting a hard tag every week and needs to learn how to play with the added attention. This is called player development and is the responsibility of the people in coaching roles to educate players and support them to learn the right way to prepare and to go about their footy.
We just aren't good enough yet to play finals this season. Fortuitously for us we are probably going to end up with TWO picks in the top ten this year so we can count ourselves fortunate. We may even end up with a pick #5 or something. We do need to really nail this years draft picks. The trade with the Hawks is an absolute godsend.

I tend to think the other way around... not because of their output or potential... but because CP was very much a known quantity at the time and clear favourite as #1 amongst experts. Paddy was very high in everyone's thinking too.

Bont was NOT even a clear top 5 pick ... and was even considered a bit of a bolter ... we would not take a speculative with a top 3. I was spewing we were considering JB ahead of Josh Kelly... as it turns out, GWS knew what they were doing and took him at 2. Billings was the obvious at 3 at the time.
I like obvious!

Which is why I liked CP... he was the obvious choice imo ... better player, better athlete, immature attitude.

Cost us at least 2 flags. What utter hyperbole.

Indeed, SP. The obvious signs of a troll from our serial forum pest. Pick the most popular and emotive issue on the forum and then add another thread to the discussion. There are numerous threads you could've popped your "valuable" opinion into, but you chose to start your own thread. So obvious it's pathetic. The fact we are replying is not a reflection on us, although this will give you the thrill you obviously seek. It is to let you know that we are on to you and that we know what your agenda is.

When will the mods ban you? This is tiresome, especially as you are an Essendope supporter. Your pathetic defence of Jimmy golden Turd betrayed you. You couldn't help yourself. No self respecting saints fan would've posted what you did. So give it a rest and go back to doperland and post there. JB and Paddy will be be good players for us. Maybe not superstars, but they will hardly cost us two flags. At least we'll win one before Essendope and won't you hate it when that happens?

The mods have done what we are able to establish the bona fides of the poster being accused of trolling and are satisfied he is a Saints fan.

All forums are the same. If you post something against the mainstream you are attacked from all angles. These people who do the attacking should not be allowed to post. They should all be sitting around a campfire and telling everyone how successful the St Kilda football club really is.

Bont and Kelly aside the 2013 draft is a bit of a dud when you look at it so no point blaming the recruiters.
I'll put my hand up and admit I wanted Scharenberg. Has he played a game at all?
Then you have Aish Sheed Lennon Freeman. So not great odds.
The good picks were Cripps and Zak Jones.

When JB was stuck in the baby nappy coloured Zebs,
tony came on and said JB was working thru some challenges-
I assumed he was being asked to be an inside mid.
That's like asking Pauline Hanson to eat halal-certified choccies.

We have enough hard insiders, Dunstan is supposed to be the bullock
allowing Stuv n others to get a free run.

Let JB do what his DNA and body type are suited to.
Lukey is slow like an ox, he can be the grunt, the speedsters can do the rest

Plus 1.

I can undersatnd that the coaches want to improve his contested game, but all it's doing atm is making him lose confidence. I can't forget that game against the Bulldogs when we were 50 points down and he was a large part of the reason we won. We need to play the kid at half forward whenever we get a good enough list to challenge in finals.

Can you imagine in junior footy if you put your most talented players in the back pockets and in the forward pockets? You play them where they are happy and where they thrive. Didn't Carlisle move to us because he didn't want to play forward. How would Carlisle feel if we asked him to play ruck forward for the rest of his career?
