33. Bigoa Nyuon (VIC C - Dandenong Stingrays)

Apparently, this kid kicked 3 today. Tall and very mobile.

this was from earlier in the year.
#24 Bigoa Nyuon

The 195cm Nyuon provided some eye-catching athleticism with his minutes forward and in the ruck, especially the latter where his outstanding vertical leap often won him the hit out. He gave his midfielders some excellent taps to advantage without breaking stride and competed defensively when the ball hit the ground. He didn’t win much of the ball, but that will come with further development.

Bigoa Nyuon – nicknamed 'Biggie' – kicked three goals, including two skillful shots from the boundary line.

Nyuon is the younger brother of former Bombers rookie Gach Nyuon, and is a member of the St Kilda Next Generation Academy.

Biggie used to attend all the parties around our area in 2016-2017. My son told me he knows him, but doesn't see him anymore at some of the gatherings. Biggie apparantly doesn't drink anymore and he is serious about his footy. Meantime, my son is very serious about his partying

Bumping an old thread after seeing a video of our preseason training on afl.com with Biggy doing sprint sessions with the seniors

Do the coaches or development staff pick and choose who gains a spot in our NGA? If we aren't happy with the progress made by a 16-17 year old kid, can he be cut from the squad?

What were Biggies weaknesses that made us decide to pass on him at pick 54?

I'm still confused why we'd put a couple of years into a young guy and then fail to draft him. If he was worth a pick in the 60's or an early rooky pick(in other words, you believe there is potential) surely he was worth pick 54

I think they fully intended to take him just not at the price asked

So we’re pouring money into something that another club benefits from? Interesting??

Then don’t do it.

Not interested in a broke club spending money for nothing. Poor business practices.

I’m only interested in spending money on kids we drafted or kids we are going to draft.

How did we get anything from the time and money spent on Bigoa Nguon?

We are not a charity organisation!

It would be stupid to pay a higher draft price for Biggy than the club rated him at.

In business you do not overpay, and if an investment is not working out you cut your losses.

The Saints have a tiny draft zone and are thus unlikely to gain the benefit that many clubs can extract from it.

With Biggy the sentiment seems to be great athlete, but his football nous and ability to read the play were lacking.

It was seed funded by the AFL, sponsors are on board, coaches get accredited and under represented minorities get access to the game.

It's in our interest to do it.

What a laugh. Have you seen how much we paid Hill in terms of money and more to the point in terms of Draft picks plus Acres on top?

Whether we picked Biggy or not, we selected him and he made it to a senior list. Our academy is open to more young talent. It is about the growth of our zone, not a short cut through the draft. Goodwill, inclusion and diversity is not charity, it is part of responsible marketing.

The main purpose is to give access to under represented groups within these commumities.

Over generations, the supporter base of the VFL/AFL grew and grew. It was an organic growth that happened as the population and it's diversity grew.

In recent decades that landscape has changed dramatically and other sports and social interests are growing exponentially. Womens cricket is Australias fastest growing sport Soccer clubs have more registered players than any other sport.

While TV rights bring the AFL and elite players more money and interstate clubs with less competition and historic roots in AFL maintain financial security, Clubs like St.kilda, the Bulldogs and Nth Melbourne are languishing.

Our zone has a vastly different ethnocentric populus than what we enjoyed on our first move to Moorabbin. Our traditional supporter base is shrinking and our local football clubs are dying.

How could investment in diversity not be in our long term interest?

so far it’s been a waste of time, and unless we unearth some talent it will remain that way.

Not about goodwill

I’m about winning games of footy.

Let the AFL grow the game. Clubs are there to win games, and that’s all I care about!

Winning games of footy has rarely been a luxury this club has enjoyed. All of a sudden you think it's not a priority because we invest in a partnership with the AFL, sponsors and some rapidly growing ethnic groups. Seriously?

The goodwill is directed at the AFL, it's is their initiative, their will and they hold all the power.

EVERYTHING this club does

Playing group
Coaching group
List Management
Support Staff
Administration
Board

MUST be operating with ONE goal, winning a flag!
To do that we need to win games!!
Any other irrelevant priority or deviation from a single minded focus is not only a waste of time, it’s a distraction.

Win a premiership or two, all of a sudden fighting for survival is not an issue!

If it isn’t helping us in our pursuit to win a flag. What is the point!!!
