While this is a great result it really is just a reminder of how bad our membership numbers have been over the past few years.
Winning the odd game really does make a difference.

More a reflection on how our supporters are waking to the fact the team is not the basket case many would have them believe.

If the supporter numbers are to be believed, then we should have a minimum of 50,000 members. Poor conversion rate, especially after the success of 2003 -2011. If the kangas and WB can get over 40k, what on earth has our membership department been doing? Aren't we still last among the Victorian clubs? Even Melbourne, with no finals in a decade and the disadvantage of MCC membership has more than us, I believe.

More a reflection on our "supporters" than our membership department.

I saw a table in the paper last week. We were dead last of the Melbourne clubs in terms of membership.

I suspect some of the figures were somewhat dodgy. Clubs doing little deals here and there to cheat the audit. Pet memberships and the like.

Apparently you need to have contributed only $50 to count as a member. So a sponsor could contribute $2000 and potentially, through some creative paperwork, that could go down on the audit as 40 new members.

From memory we had 38,000 odd members and Richmond, for example, had 70-something thousand.

Then again, maybe we're just lagging behind.

This

I heard that sponsors but memberships for the 'company' and donate an amount. For that they get 20+ membership tags that anyone can use. If you bought it for a team, they would also be available for the opposition supporters to attend, ie Richmond v St Kilda, either Rich or St Killda could use it. A Hawthorn or Collingwood membership would be used most weeks in a company of more than 50 employees (and family)

Wait??!!!

3:16 reporting an actual fact??

Although the content of this post is measurable, I'm now concerned, as if stonecold reports it, it's certain to be incorrect.

We need an audit on our membership numbers now..

Despite having the lowest membership for a Victorian club, and third lowest overall, our average home attendances are ranked 10th.

Higher than Melbourne, Geelong, Fremantle, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane, GWS and Gold Coast. And only narrowly behind Essendon.

Beno88.

When the new deal with the stadium we call home actually starts benefiting St.K. F.C. I believe it will help grow the membership as well as the attendence numbers. If it arrives @ the same time as our developing Saints morphing into contenders it will see a bright new era for St. Kilda.

If the AFL feels the need to keep handing good players on a plate to the special teams up north then they might consider the natural justice of this arrangement and BUY BACK THE DOME ALREADY !!
An AFL endorsed financial deal in our Saintly interests for once would be appreciated. :D
