What is your IDEAL Draft period?

Post: # 1584118Post SMS »

5. Wayne Milera or Ah Chee (underated guns, pace we need)
Second Round: Carlisle
Third Round: Freeman
Fourth Round/Rookies: Ruckman, tall defenders or pace outside mids
left footers - great kicks

Ill be angry if we get any inside mids, medium slow forwards or backs.

Milera looks bloody unbelievable imo.

But according to posters - the club has already decided on Mathieson.

Within the realms of possibility...

Pick 24 and Ross for Carlisle
Pick 42 for Freeman
Tom Hickey for pick 13

Delist Saunders, Ray and Saad

Pick 5 - Darcy Parish
Pick 13 - Ryan Clarke
Pick 60 - Sam Skinner
Pick 78 - Upgrade Sinclair
Pick 96 - Upgrade Holmes

Out: Hickey, Ross, Siposs, Markworth, Saunders, Simpkin
In: Carlisle, Freeman, Parish, Clarke, Skinner, Sinclair

Round 11, 2016 (if I were picking the team, so outside the realms of possibility)

B: Dempster, Goddard, Webster
HB: Savage, Carlisle, Fisher
C: Montagna, Armitage, Riewoldt
HF: Billings, Bruce, Sinclair
F: Membrey, McCartin, Lonie

Foll: Longer, Steven, Dunstan
Int: Newnes, Parish, Freeman, Roberton

Fringe: Clarke, Acres, Gilbert, Geary, Weller, McKenzie

Now that's a team that can hit targets.

About 8 days.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

I think Milera is more a late first early second rounder but looks exciting. I reckon Francis will be there still at 5 and we would be better getting him than Matho. Otherwise Clarke. Francis is Brendan Goddard mark II. He could develop into a Nat Fyfe if he moves on ball. Has solid star quality written all over him.

Milera got a bad heart.
Knew it was too good to be true. Pass.

-I really do believe that one of Longer or Hickey will be traded for a first round pick this year (probably Hickey) - Before you all say the inevitable "Hickey/Longer isn't worth a first round pick" please understand that ready made ruckman and very hard to come by - which makes them expensive. Both clearly don't fit into the team structure, so its a waste having both IMO (At worst Holmes can cover should one get injured)
Trading one of them is also the easiest solution to keeping 5 and getting Carlisle (Who I imagine would be a much more suitable second ruckman than Bruce- not that Bruce didn't do an alright job, but keeping him forward is a much better outcome for the team and the forward structure.

-Conversations between the Pies and GWS over Treloar have apparently stalled, with the possibility that Treloar himself has cooled on the Pies in general.
The Blues have come out and offered a more financially appealing offer to Treloar - why can't we do the same.
I know that the people in the know have constantly said that we will be looking to stockpile draft picks and really load up on young talent, but Treloar is only 22, already a star and quite possibly a bargain if we can get him for 5 and next year second pick (or a player)
Reports have Collingwood offering pick 7 an next years second rounder, but I've also read that GWS have said that they have enough young guys and are interested in some already established players.

-Freeman is a risk, but also a free hit to a degree. If we can get him for a third rounder (or free through the draft) AND his hamstrings hold up, we've got a genuine steal!

- Trade Hickey/Longer for a first round pick (many teams looking for a Ruckman)
- Use the pick we receive for either Hickey or Longer for Carlisle
- Second or Third rounder for Freeman
- Pick 5 and next years second rounder (or player) for Treloar

I think it's realistic, with a lot of good fortune.
If all the above comes off, its not unreasonable to assume that we MIGHT sneak our way back up the ladder whilst Joey and Roo are still around.

2017 - Hypothetical

FB Newnes Carlisle Webster

HB Savage Goddard Dempster

W Joey Treloar Roberton

HF Billings Roo Sinclair

FF Lonie McCartin Bruce

FOLL Longer Steven Armo

BENCH Weller, Dunstan, Acres, Freeman,

Ross
Geary
Ray
Fisher
Membrey
Gilbert
McKenzie
Shenton
2016 1st round pick

My thoughts looking forward -

Trade:
ND#24 & Ross for Carlisle or Hickey for Carlisle (& swap of late picks)
2016 2nd round & Saad for Freeman
ND#5 for Carlisle & another quality midfielder eg Weller?
Hickey for a late 1st rounder?

Draft:
ND#5 = Mathieson
ND#(late 1st round) = Darcy Tucker or Clayton Oliver
ND#42 = Rice
ND#60 = Sinclair upgrade
ND#78 = Holmes (if Hickey traded)

Rookie:
R#5 = Ruckman
R#23 & R#41 = Best Available
