You can't have Lee in "medium forwards".

After Roo, a bit light-on for Tall FWs although could fix that with a year of tanking and smart selections in next years draft.

Apart from that, the list of young players (<24) are really starting to take shape.

It'll be 23.9 at the start of next year. Average is pretty consistent though, there's not a lot of information you can draw from it.

2013: 24.0
2012: 23.9
2011: 23.9
2010: 23.8
2009: 23.1
2008: 24.0
2007: 24.0
2006: 23.8
2005: 23.5
2004: 23.3
2003: 24.1
2002: 25.2

After Roo, a bit light on. Should have placed him in every category.

Like a couple more tall forwards and a couple less small forwards. Can see two there clogging our list - although one of them could be a real player if he set his mind to it.

16 players left from Lyon's last year at the club. He was certainly right about it being the end of an era

we may see less small forwards without Watters. I suspect that was his making which was often small forward heavy. If that makes sense.

We have to leave a couple to be delisted along with Jones next year

I don't think we'll struggle for de-listings

Jones, Hayes, Fisher, Dempster, Maister, TDL, Dunnel, Simpkin, Gwilt, Ray, Milera & Shenton will be considered you'd think depending on their form and health.

Hayes, Fisher, Schneider, TDL, Dunnell are the most likely. Jones and Shenton are possible. Gwilt, Ray, & Simpkin are pretty safe, I'd say

Probably no more than 6 changes next year

6 would be plenty I guess, just think that if Maister can't crack many senior games they won't recontract him & if Dempster or Gwilt have a bad run with injuries they might also hang up the boots.

It's why I wouldn't have minded adding Joel Tippet, as we might be still be short on key defender depth in a year or 2.

Simpkin should be on the list.

He is? I've got him 7th of the 8 tall defenders, though, so I'm not sure he'll still be on the list next year.

2004: 23.3

2002: 25.2
I don't understand that. How can you lose Kosi, Blake and Milney, pick-up a bunch of young guys and have the same average age?????

It happens that way because everybody else on the list is a year older.
Lose 4 older players Kosi, Blake, Milney and Dal and add one year to everyone remaining soon balances out.

Median age is only a slightly better measure.

2014: 23.2
2013: 22.9
2012: 23.2
2011: 24.0
2010: 23.6
2009: 22.8
2008: 23.8
2007: 23.1
2006: 22.4
2005: 22.7
2004: 22.4
2003: 23.8
2002: 24.0

Why did the median go up this year? Let's break it down:

- last year's median was Jack Steven at 22.9
- if there were no changes to the list then he'd still be the median but at 23.9 not 22.9
- we got rid of six older than Jack - Milne, Blake, Koschitzke, Dal Santo, McEvoy and Saad - that moves the median to someone a bit younger than Jack
- we also got rid of four younger than Jack - Ledger, Ferguson, Lever, Staley - that moves the median back up to someone almost Jack's age
- we added Holmes and Delaney, who are older than Jack, so that pulls the median up still further
- but we also added a bunch of players younger than Jack - Savage, Weller, Bruce, Longer, Dunstan, Billings, Templeton and Acres - so that pulls it down again

The median ended up on Shane Savage, who's about nine months younger than Jack. So adding all that youth and getting rid of some old guys counteracts 3/4 of the effect of adding a year to everyone else's age.

Clear as mud, right?
