5 year deal
If it's true that we were put off by choco's request for a 5 year deal then tgat is pathetic. Give him 5 but link the contract to very clear performance objectives that if he fails to meet we have the right to terminate and walk away with a settlement pre agreed.
Fkn stupid! Who runs this place?

Well that wouldn't really be a five year contract, would it?MC Gusto wrote:If it's true that we were put off by choco's request for a 5 year deal then tgat is pathetic. We've got the right man. I am sure of it. Originally I thought Williams was the only way forward, but it was clear he was only tepid on the job. I understand his reluctance given the way we treat people. However, we shouldn't have to force people to get the head job. If Williams wasn't 100% then I agree with looking elsewhere.
With Ken Hinkley's success at Port Adelaide, Richardson was a shoo in for a job soon. I'm surprised actually that Paul Roos didn't get him over to Melbourne as his successor.
Good move by us. Just again too messy. But right move in the end in my opinion.

You are providing the tenure based on obligations being met. that is a definition of a contract.
Working in this space myself i know for a fact that a contract requires some fundamentals to be worth the paper it is written on. What it is that is required (obligations), how they will be measured (performance) and how that performance will be paid.
Fundamental!
Seriously nobody writes up 5 year deals that arent tied to the contracting party meeting obligations...

Re: 5 year deal
so we ditch the idea of a premiership coach for some one who has assisted at Essendon, Doggies, Carlton and Port and the only glimmer of success was at port?
This is just a shambles

Re: 5 year deal
also if we were worried about chocos excessive demands (read $s) then surely that would have been counter balanced with a membership drive off the back of such a high profile appointment. No chance of that now. We will see the opposite in fact. Richardson who? that will be the response from joe blogs fan. We will see a record low membership next year. quite possibly only exceeding GWS.

Re: 5 year deal
Wow a I get the drift - you want Choco. Who says Choco is happy to have a 5 year contract linked to KPI's ? - I suggest the opposite, he wants a 5 year contarct to protect himself from an early exit.

You seem obsessed with the idea of "Premiership coach".MC Gusto wrote:so we ditch the idea of a premiership coach for some one who has assisted at Essendon, Doggies, Carlton and Port and the only glimmer of success was at port?

How many Premiership coaches have gone back to being an assistant and then got a new job as a coach and had success.
I'm pretty sure Clarkson, Longmire, whichever Scott is at Geelong weren't Premiership coaches before they took up their current positions.

Re: 5 year deal
I get the feeling even if sought terms were identical they'd still have gone with Richardson.
I think he had a better hand and unlike Williams he didn't overplay it.
But surely no one was ever gonna get a 5 year deal.

Well Mark Fine's mail a month ago was all about Richardson.markp wrote:I get the feeling even if sought terms were identical they'd still have gone with Richardson.

Everyone else he spruiked was on the money. So I'd guess you're right. I'd guess that Richardson was at the top of the list and Williams was the other option.
If you look at it that way, then the club has yet again managed to get their man.
Well done Saints.

Re: 5 year deal
IMO Pelch should be both coach and player manager for 2014 only and then seek a coach for 2015.
Saves half a mill and we are only developing players in 2014.

Thank goodness you don't. I'd prefer to have Richardson ahead of Choco anyway.MC Gusto wrote:If it's true that we were put off by choco's request for a 5 year deal then tgat is pathetic. Re: 5 year deal
People are being far too simplistic here
The panel is a number of people. Different opinions, different personalities.
I was on a workplace committee for a number of years.
It's tough work trying to get everyone on the same page!
Every single meeting went way past the planned finish time.
We all have reasons for our stance, and place different levels of value on things.
E.g. one member might say "we need x as coach because he can develop/nurture talent without burning them out, sure we'll finish low but we're looking long term"
Someone else will want big name for sponsor $ and more members,
gambling on quicker results.
Burn-out of younguns? Get some more in October 2014 draft.
Guarantee you there is ongoing vigorous debate with at least one member of the panel holding a grudge that his opinion was overwhelmed.
This is not like sitting with the wife and kids to decide where to go for Chrissie holidays.

Re: 5 year deal
i ended up handing in my seat on our workgroup committee
managers thought they knew everything while never having worked on the floor level in their life and having no f****** idea about anything lower than them in a pay structure...but still thought their ideas were the bees f****** knees and implemented them anyway
100% agreement on a committee is like finding an xb gt sedan with no rust for 10 grand
it just doesnt happen
