Maverick Weller

Just read on Trade Whispers that he has nominated us as his preferred choice of destination... Don't see him coming here though as we already have one too many players.

Rookie?

I suppose it comes down to who has more potential, someone like him or TDL or Dunnell

TDL is VERY lucky to be holding his position IMO so wouldnt surprise me if he goes.

There's a number of players in the gun in terms of being delisted.

Saady is unfortunately a given with TDL & Dunell the next cabs off the rank.

I like Weller & reckon he could be a excellent pick up for free.

I'd Rookie Jolly & take Weller as a DFA.

I'd take Jolly as a ruck coach and nothing more. I would prefer Weller over him easily.

I'd take both, as long as Jolly expects 8-10 games will be it, with most of them subbed off....
Young rucks need protecting from the very best and biggest week in, week out...
I believe the young developing mids also need to learn from a big ruck as well....

I agree but we've got 3 we can rotate through already to protect them at different stages. I don't think Big Billy needs too much protecting either :) Hawthorn were going to take him as their first ruck option let's not forget. He's probably as strong/stronger than Big Boy already.

I'd just rather take another stab at a youngster on our rookie list - not someone that will barely last the season.

We need mids more than another ruckmen…

Can't see us delisting 3 contracted players to fit both Weller & Jolly in… plus take 3 kids in the draft?

Rookie both…

I can. We're agressively turning the list over. Is Weller a better proposition than the bottom three players on our list?

I don't understand why we would re-contract half a dozen fringe players late this year, if we then go and delist them… pretty unprofessional.

yes

Also i reckon he wouldn't have nominated the Saints unless there was a form of encouragement from the club to do so.

Lance or James??

Apparently likes the idea of three coaches in three years. Thinks it will fast track his development :D

Saints having posted this article today on the official website is interesting to say the least. Weller speaks to SEN of the Saints being interested, albeit prior to the completion of the trade period.

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2013-10-2 ... -to-saints

"..Weller hopes to find a new home during the Gillette AFL delisted player free agency period, which will run from November 1-13.

"I had a really good chat with St Kilda with (list manager) Ameet Bains. That was quite a few weeks ago now, but I had a really good feeling there.
My gut feeling (is) it'd be great to go there," he told Melbourne radio station SEN on Monday morning...."

Looks like no one likes my Ian Callinan idea. Disappointing. I have a couple of others but might hold fire for a week or so..

True, unless it was to cover our butt in case we couldn't trade with anyone?
