trade Cripps get it done.

Forget Brown - grab Martin

Ray for Martin -

Get a back up ruck / defender option in martin
Improve midfield stocks to play immediately
Keep 13.

Offer Port 37 (trump Kangas 38) for Jacobs.

Would be very happy if this eventuated and we stick it up WC and they get nothing.,, and the icing on the cake would be Brown walking out at the end of next year.

Greedy buggers.

Greg Broughton.. At least it gives West Coast something to think about. Rossy may also be a little sympathetic to our dilemma. I just hope we don't end up with nothing at all.

Warnock averaged 31 hitouts/game over 5 games in 2012 - but only 7 possessions per game.
Doesn't offer much other than hitouts - which as we know from WCE stats are neither here nor there and don't translate into clearances.

NEXT !

I really don't think Ross does sympathy....

He's the kind of guy at a funeral who asks:

"Whose that lazy bastard lying round in the wooden box?"

I'd still try Broughton for Cripps though - better than what we'll get from EGirls

Don't really like Warnock personally... hopefully this puts a bit of pressure on the Suns to look at more reasonable offers other than pick 13 for Hickey tho.

Like the sound of Broughton! Would be good if we could send Cripps over there. This also puts pressure on the WCE to play ball or risk not getting Cripps.

Both these trades sound more to me like positioning by the club to show they have other options and can go elsewhere if the other clubs don't come to the party with these trades. Go Saints!!!

I hope we don't let Martin escape if he comes cheap.
Unfortunately Hickey kicked 2 goals against us and that has probably brought him to our attention - but this needs to be weighed up against the fact that he's done very little else in the other games this year.

Nothing unfortunate about that - he has a lot of potential & very athletic, what I don't want to do is give up something stupidly over the top (like pick 13) for him. That's what Gold Coast want & that's why we've gone cold on the deal.

Ross Lyon tried to make him into the half forward that he isn't (David Armitage style) & his form fell away.

How much better (potentially) is Hickey going to be compared to Martin ?
We know Martin weighs 100 kgs and has averaged 17 possessions plus per game and can play forward etc..

If Martin comes cheap - what are we waiting for ?

He's like a 20 year old ruckman or therabouts. Most ruckman are in their AFL diapers by that stage - he's shown a lot for his tender years. Ruckman don't start playing well until they're closer to their mid 20's. Martin, I agree, would be good - but his career has been pretty patchy to this point as well. Not exactly talking guns either way & Martin is injury prone don't forget.

True savatage .but in regards to Martin don't forget Kosi was also injury prone for quite a while at one stage under GT's training regime.
Melbourne's training methods may not be up to scratch ?

Also, Hickey has already sufferred a knee injury that sidelined him for eight weeks.
Hopefully he too is not injury prone.

so it's a risk either way... but if Martin comes cheap- at least that somewhat reduces what you're risking.

Not entirely adverse to the idea of getting Martin, but I dont like the idea of getting someone because he could fill a role and they'll be cheap which seems to be the arguement for getting Martin. Just don't like the top up mentality - isn't that what we were all agro at Lyon for?

With Cripps these are the likely outcomes...

1) Keep him - not unrealistic but not likely

2) Eagles for Brown - unrealistic

3) Eagles for a crap pick - hope not

4) Eagles for Stevens - unlikely now he went for Dogs

5) Freo for either pick or Broughton, Freo have better picks on offer

6) Freo, Broughts to Port & Jacobs to us - clearly the best replacement of Cripps, but unlikely at best.

At least there are plenty of options out there one would think...

That's not the arguement with Martin but that is the bonus with him as there will be times that we won't need another ruckman in the team. We have no key position depth - I have no problem instantly improving that situation if the price is right.

I've heard whispers that there's a reason not to pick up Martin, and that it's not about his body. Not sure on the details but the implication is that there are "character concerns".

Teflon said "Rossy may also be a little sympathetic to our dilemma".
there are still some of us who appreciate the 2 G.Final appearances but regret the lack of youth dev.
I'm personally more sympathetic to Freeo over ther and would prefer dealing with them. I think Lyon is more realistic and not so interested in posturing through trade periods.

I'd rather see us deal with Ross Lyon and Freeo as i think he may be less interested in screwing trade partners even if it is with his old club. I think WC are perhaps too interested in looking tough after losing Lynch and what better club to do it to than one of Melb's 2nd. rate clubs (their mindset maybe - not my own obviously).
Ross has the experience of Roos sending him the 2 premiership players and he could be willing to simply deal straight with the Saints this year and in years to come.
It would be beneficial for us to have one club in WA land to be able to deal realistically with. I have no problem with Ross Lyon doing well over there - i still appreciate the 2 G.Finals he took us to. This scenario should help Watters down the years (assuming he achieves greatness with us). to get the odd good player to our club from WA via Freeo.
I'd like to see Cripps stay - i think he's making a mistake aiming 4 the weagles but i'd rather see him go to Ross if he has to go. Happy to wait 12 monthes 4 Brown to come to the Saints. Keep Pk. 13 and 25 as well - unless the GC speculators are prepared to let Hickey go @ #25.
Working up front with Freeo is in our best interests i think.

GO WATTAMAN!
