Goddards managers comments.

Post: # 1267829Post CURLY »

Anyone hear what he had to say. He said StKilda obviously had salary cap presure. Then said we have list management problems. From what I hear both are off the mark and the words of a man trying yi justify greed. I dont hate Goddard for going 800k guaranteed is very good money for z 32 year old. But please dont throw out s*** to justify it.

He suggested it was mostly footy related. What a crock of s#it.

Watters, IMO, got it correct on AW when he was asked why Goddard left. He was straight to the point. MONEY.

Add to that he said Goddard thought Essendon were closer to a flag than StKilda… spare us your sooking back-handers please, last time I checked the Bombers were sitting below us after we annihilated them this year.

I hope Essendon implodes now that they've had to cater for Goddard's greed....

Hird and Thompson could be setting themselves up for a BIG fall

This is the crap that I laughed at, why can't they just be honest and say he went for the cash. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Who wouldn't at least think about leaving for an extra millon bucks

Both parties will spin it a bit.

St Kilda will try to appease their supporters by claiming Essendon offered, and Goddard accepted, ridiculous money that the club could not realistically match. Had to let him go to ensure the club had flexibility in the salary cap in order to retain and recruit stars in the future.

Essendon/Goddard/Goddard's Manager will try to appease Essendon players and supporters by suggesting there really wasn't much difference between their offer and the Saints offer and it was really just about the 4th year.

Few if any will know the real truth. It's a case of believe what you want to believe.

When Goddard says something I will listen. At this stage The coach and Goddard's manager have spoken, and listening to both of them suggests $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talks.

By the way. You seem to think everything Ross says, and does, is gospel.

unless he did a pre record for Essendon before leaving for America today there will be little said by BJ for atleast 4 weeks- when gets back into the coutnruy- By which time there wil be more names new and old being discussed.

Here's a couple to start you off.
For me personally, I'm as loyal as they come
But I'm happy at St Kilda. I'm a contracted St Kilda player and I want to be at the footy club and take the club forward

Went for money - but part of the reason this situation came about is because we DO have list management problems. Kosi and Gram have been and continue to be miles over-paid. This is a list management problem and if people cant connect the dots on this I think they might be missing something obvious.

Let me just say this - if you know people at your work who you are 100% certain (and every other objective and independent judge in your industry tells you) are vastly inferior in output but have a much better (longer and more lucrative ) contract - how would you feel? What would you do? Would you be motivated or carry a little kernel of animosity toward the mgt who allowed this to happen???

ps: i dont think the people responsible for this situation are still at the club but BJ no doubt aggrieved enough to leave.

So how's Jobe Watson going to be asking for his new contract? A Brownlow medallist knowing that a Johnny Come Lately is on probably double what he's worth?? Looking forward to that can of worms opening!

Agree - for me this issue isnt about the actual dollar amount - it is about where you are in the pecking order and relative to your team mates that pisses people off.
this is what i believe BJ off but the foot might be on the other foot next time - other bombers might get pissed off by BJ.
its is a delicate and important game the list management game. no question.
look at geelong and saints - arguably they have managed their lists and payment structures better than the rest...

my firm belief was that if St Kilda wanted BJ beyond 2012, they should've taken the punt on BJ as captain when there was speculation around Oct/Nov last year after Watters was appointed. I believe the opportunity to transition from Roo was lost when they let the players decide who the captain should have been for 2012. Not sure if BJ was ready to be captain or worthy to be captain in 2012, but that is just my opinion. Some will say it's another hindsight call...but there were plenty of us at the time, that did make the call. Anyhooo...

As for todays announcements, the club already knew he was going and he knew he was going.

Brendans speech at the best and fairest confirmed it.

As did Watter's speech at the B&F talking about loyalty & commitment.

IMO Goddard has never looked anything close to captaincy material. Too much of an angry ant, too petulant towards team mates & very sulky.
