Rhys Stanley

Post: # 750080Post Con Gorozidis »

Does anyone think Mr Lyon will be tempted to sneak Rhys in for a taste of senior footy this week?

Or do you think he will maintain the pecking order and play Big Mac ?

I agree Big Mac is ahead. Im just thinking its a nice time to think long term and give him a sniff.

I'd love to have a look at him, but I suspect we'll have to wait.

i saw stanley play on sunday and he is an exciting prospect but a bit of a stick figure atm.

bigmac's impressive, too, and his better physical development would keep him ahead for the moment you would think.

but who knows. if you're going on form then stanley was in the best players.

No

No
..I don't think Lyon is into pecking orders for team selections.

I think he will look at roles:

Option A will be to go with another ruckman to replace Gardi...= McEvoy as our best capable witha body now looking nicely musceled up.

Option B will be to just play the one ruck (if King is a bit sore is not likely) in which case Goose could get a run.

that would mean kosi/goose possibly alternating as key forward/second ruck. not the worst suggestion.

It would be a fantastic opportunity to see Rhys at senior level ...

King v McIntosh
Stanley v Goldstein

He is no skinnier than Kruezner was on debut

I think the concensus is that Rhys Stanley is too skinny for AFL just yet. I could lend him some of my muscle, although it is "RELAXED MUSCLE", very relaxed muscle    !!

Back to the topic though, I would like to see Stanley being given a run. He is very mobile.

he's going to be a super player. takes marks, is quick and seems to have a big tank. plus he's very tall and can kick goals.

what im gettin at is - we know we are going to play finals.

if one or 2 rucks go down with injury in round 22 we dont want to bring in a first gamer. so now is a nice opportunity to give him a game so he sees the pace of the game.

Slightly off point...

IF Stanley was picked...

I'm seeing it on Friday.

Laidley with all that chin rubbing, squinty eyed, intense 'player's coach' chutzpah goin' on...

'Look I'm here to talk about North Melbourne football club, but look if St Kilda want to play this like a trial game then I think that's really disrespectful...' etc etc etc

He's a deadset spin merchant that bloke...

We better play McGrath as well then just in case 3 rucks go down. Stanley could be a very good player for us but his body isnt ready. Ben will play if fit, if not Blake will have to play as the seond ruckman. Ben should be right though.

We're not Carlton, we don't have to throw our big men in the deep end. Give the lad a year to fill out, gain some confidence in the VFL.

It's not like we're short in the ruck stocks any more. Big Ben is being brought in, and Blake and Kosi can cover if need be.

10-15kg is what he needs. He has the skill & also the aggression to make it.

Definately go with McEvoy..he himself needs the big league experinace to get used to,plus his forms seems good goin by the vfl results i see and being named saints emergency already a numder of times this season.

Stanley,as was big ben last season, his time will come but for now as a rookie keep workin hard, learning and putting on the kilo`s then he should be choice in another 2 seasons :)

Could we put Stanley in the side and then let it slip that the boy comes from Moama. Afterall, it was Moama where Laidley and his son got the living suitcases belted out of them a few years ago .................by a 15 year old !!

I'd say Jarryd Allen's diet would consist of a lot of creatine & protein at the minute. I saw an image. He's definitely put on a bit of size. Not massive but well defined for sure. He was reasonable last year - looks like a lot of extra gym work obviously in his down time.

It'll take Stanley a long while to catch up :)

The one thing we don't want to do is put Kosi back into the ruck. Leave him on the forward line, he is playing well at the moment and is putting opposition backmen under great pressure with his attack on the ball in marking situations, often spreading the packs open for our smaller goalsneaks.

Got to agree with that. Kosi seems to play his best footy when settled in one position. Why would we want to weaken the forward line by putting him in there anyway, when we can either play McEvoy there (who looked excellent in the seniors a few weeks ago) or Blake, who could be replaced down back by Max or Goose?
I'm looking forward to the years ahead with Stanley and McEvoy, though.

YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
