Yeah I read that ..called himself a "massive fan who considers St Kilda his 2nd family"

Well..throwing modesty to the winds, the two areas of culture in this town I like to think I know a little about over the years are the rock music scene and the St Kilda Football Club. Tex, I think your a bloody awesome vocalist but Ive NEVER heard that you are a Saints fan, let alone the fanatic you profess to be in that article. Anyoneelse heard of this previously?

Did see you puffing on a fag outside the AFL Members on GF day a few years ago though

This performance sends shivers up my spine every time I watch it. Prbably the high point in this shows (glittering) history IMO

Tex is a great singer and performer (one of the best New Years Eve's I've had was at The Corner with The Beasts of Bourbon, about 1990), but if he is a Saints man now, it is completely because he is on the bandwagon. He aint no sports fan.

Think that butchers The Pogues actually.

Shane McGowan would be turning in his Taiwanese drunken haze.

This is probably 'his' most well know tune:

Saw them once supporting the Stones at the MCG in 1995, they did a good job, more so than the Stones anyway.

Tex watched the Port Adelaide game at the Seabaths a couple of weeks ago with Matt Hardy.

Saints certaintly have some high profile names... molly, eric, tex, shane warne, mundine, fox, the crazy chris flannery and quite a few of the underground big wigs for some reason... yeah it dont make sense we didnt buy or at least bully our way to a few flags in the 70's!!

Recommend, if you can get hold of it, any of the stuff by Tex, Don and Charlie.
From wikepedia
Tex, Don and Charlie is an Australian super group formed by Tex Perkins from The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon and others, Don Walker from Cold Chisel and widely respected guitarist Charlie Owen. Their first album Sad But True was released in 1993 with the second released in 2005.

The band was founded in 1992 as Tex Perkins relates: "I saw Charlie and thought 'Jesus Christ'. He was easily the best rock guitar player I had seen. He was really dexterous, but gutsy. Not flashy. I think it had a lot of jazz in him as well. I made a mental note that I'd like to work with Charlie and about I year later I heard he was playing with Don Walker in Catfish. Then somebody suggested I do something with Don Walker and I said 'Sure, as long as Charlie Owen is there'."[citation needed]

Don and Charlie had worked together a little, but as a group they barely knew each other when they cut Sad But True in 1993. Their potent, distinctively Australian country-blues cocktail matured on stage, as faithfully reflected in their heady live album of 1995, Monday Morning Coming Down.

I played in bands around melbourne in the early 1990s and just about every muso going around seemed to be a saints fan. Well everyone except Tim Rogers.

I went up to sydney in the mid 1990s to see the saints play at the SCG and saw a heap of guys from the melbourne music scene there. Most were underground bands no one that doesnt know tex perkins would know.. Probably the last time we had a big bandwagon jump.

The nocturnal lifestyle and hung over weekends didn't make footy the most enticing past time for a lot of musicians, plus Tex was a WA boy from memory and he was a busy touring for a good 15 years.
