Sam Fisher article - The Age

Post: # 725509Post kosifantutti23 »

http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnews/sa ... 64829.html

What are the odds that a bench-warming SANFL forward and aspiring golf pro would become the AFL’s benchmark backman?

HE BECAME a footy star by stealth, which is precisely the way Sam Fisher likes it.

St Kilda's unfl appable centre half-back and reigning best and fairest reaches 100 games against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium tonight, and most likely will have the assignment on the dynamic Matthew Pavlich to ponder. Afterward, he will adjourn somewhere with his parents Sue and Terry, who have travelled from his home town of Barmera in the South Australian riverland, as well as some other friends and family.....

Yes, well done Sam. An excellent player in all aspects - skilled, fair, tough, committed and he's a Saint!

He deserves such high praise. His preparation and mental toughness rivals his talent. Hope he has a memorable 100th game tonight.

Well done to Sam on his first 100 games.

Stellar year in 2008 and has taken over from Max as our premier backman.

(Just how good would be our backline if we had both Max and Goose back and fit to assist Sam!!?)

Continue on the miserly (for the opposition forwards) form and take us deep into the finals. Congrats to Sam Fisher.

Congrats Sam - a GUN!

BTW

why does Jason Blake get forgotton?

All I hear is when Max and Goose are fit, it will 'release Fisher' (still not sure why the game's premier defender needs to be 'released'

and 'how good will it be to get Max and Goose back into our defense....

fact is Blake is rarely beaten now, has the motor and discipline to go with modern day fwds of different shapes and sizes....he has been on of our key defenders for three years now.....and still NO-ONE rates him and assumes a half fit and rusty KPP will replace him upon return, even if goose regains fitness, I am not sure he is physically or mentally as good as Blake - who IMO is the MOST underrrated player at STK.

Sam, Max (Dawson) and Blake are clearly the first choice tall defenders...

Gibert has taken on the 'utility tall' spot once occupied by BJ

Bakes is the first choice small back...last year - Dempster

Raph is the first choice medium defender - which Gwilt is ATM

Farren Ray is playing HB as a runner - Gram's old job....

Again - Blake is clearly the best CHB at Moorabbin currently - has been good for a while now...

fantastic first 100 sam,

His vision has always put him above most defenders. Has a lovely set of hands and very good whe the pressure is on.

Credit to himself and his family on making the move so late.

Must say that the older draftees and rookies aren't doing bad for the saints pesently. Cj and geary doing well as rookies (mini also). jimmy is alsostarting to bloom.

Very old fashioned way of coming through, bit of life exprience has helped make Sam a very well rounded person. (great guy to talk to after games).

Gotta love the smookie comes good

Love players like that. Andrew Thompson was another I believe, as was Ian Wright in the EPL for Arsenal.
They are a welcome relief from the guys who have been in the system since their teens and know nothing else. These guys know how lucky they are and take nothing for granted.

Loving your work Sam.
