Wasn't there also a game at Aurora Stadium (York Park) where Aaron Hamill kicked the winning point very close to or after the siren - or do I have the wrong opponents??

I was thinking the same thing.

I remember in 06 or 05 over at Subi Longmuir kicked after the siren to win them the game.

For all the Milney knockers. How could anyone question his guts continuing to play in that game in Perth.

That game shut my mate right up, he kept telling me Brent Harvey was harder over the ball than Milney. Had a bit to say to him the following monday

wtf????
why not...goal after the siren?
or Justin Peckitt is an idiot?
something simple

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

It was only 4 years ago - it was major news at the time, and was referred to as "Whispers in the Sky" at the time.

The AFL launched an investigation into the conduct of the umpire (and cleared him).

I can't believe that people don't recall it - it was huge at the time.

It also has a lot of recall about it - more than "goal after the siren". There is an immediate association with the particular match.

You must have short memories guys. It wasn't that long ago even for most of the younger guys on here to remember. The media dubbed it "Whispers in the sky" and it was all over the news for ages.

was a little more then a single decision.... after telling the media world that the umpires should "leave their ego's at the door" the umpires got their own back a week later

the umpires had a win, and went on to menton that on the plane back from the game (tony jones overheard it).

Closest thing to corruption this comp has seen.

always a wierd time playing freo.

Wasn't it the game against freo where we all placed wooden spoons at corruption oval (princess park)?

Yep, left them there for the Blues to start their collection with (2002 was their first ever Wooden Spoon).

..besides...we could also call it the "BJ why didnt you tell Frankie he was hot" game..or the "oooh lets carry on like we won the flag but 2 weeks later in our first final we were decimated by Essendon" game 8-)

I was fuming during that game - 4 or 5 goals to them directly from frees that were all very questionable.
Tony Jones heard it, but a business man was the witness who wrote it down. The AGFL called on no other witnesses and conducted the inquiry whilst the man referred to above was out of the country.

A big cover up job - umpire should have been suspended - even tho it was probably in jest - it revealed that umpires do carry bias into a game and certain results appeal to them. Not a long hop, skip, and a jump from there to unconsciously (and possibly consciously) favouring a team in decision-making.

Two rediculous events. GT told the umpires to leave their ego's at the door when umpiring...leading to the whispers.

Then the point after the siren the umps didn't hear. The rule at the time was the quarter isn't over until the umpire signals. So they changed the rules of the game AFTER our match, then took two points of us, and I think from memory cost us a top four position? The AFL were trying so hard to get Sydney a premiership...and they succeeded.

It was about this time my passion for AFL was starting to wain, currupt power hungry twits.
I love the saints, just about hate everything else.

I am pretty sure the rule is still there

the AFL just over ruled 100+ years of football history

a game is only over now when the AFL commission says it is

go figure

btw still not sure how it was stkilda's fault?

If anything I believe the conduct of the freo coach at th time was disgraceful. Entered the field before the game was officially ended by the umpires and Lenny told him just as much!
