Just got back from the game as i had to take brother to training...stayed there till 3 quarter time...

quick brief on the game....

SKILLS are terrible cannot hit a target by hand or foot...all our kicks are helicopters and handballs are to the feet of the player......

RUCKWORK got smashed lade and brogan too good for kosi and mcevoy.....big ben took some solid marks which was a positive....

clearance got smashed as well it was like 4 to 1 for power....

we are not doing the team thing and 1% blocks etc....

maxxy had his whole left leg wrapped up i think its a calf strain at half time put ice on it...

x clarke had some knee truoble and didnt play a part after half time......

not enough gut running from our players and intensity. very bad performance not many standout players....

No excuse for calf strains, these should be managed....X Clarke is the most injury prone player I can remember playing for us, bar Hammill....

Thanks SA - I think you will find that P Burgoyne was credited as kicking a goal earlier in the match

Anyway FWIW Port are full strength and we are missing close to a 1/5 or a 1/4 of our side - we are playing away in 30 degree heat - oh yeah and its the last PRACTICE GAME before the real thing!!!

Nothing to see here - please can everyone move on!!!

Just read on BF that Lade just copped a knee to the face and has a potential cheekbone injury

What are King and Gards doing again today - oh yeah that's right they are resting up getting ready for Round 1

Nice one Ross

OK..just a lil exercise for you

Name the players who didnt play today but 10000% will be playing in Round 1

Now...from those..name those who were Top 10 in our B&F last year?

I think you'll find 9 of our best 10 players were on the park today...and its the quality of the next 10 that are the problem for us.

Thanks to everyone for the updates, much appreciated.....I am now going to leave before the normal "I told you so" posters have a field day.

I think you will find our depth his year will be worse than last year due to the axing of a few mature players and the recruitment of a lot of youngsters. This will be short term pain for long term gain hopefully but it also means we need a great year injury wise.

Dal Santo
Ball
Steven
Montagna
then rotate in Goddard, Ray, Clarke, Geary, McQualter, Jones.
SO apart from Hayes that was a full strength midfield.
edit ooops forgot Armitage

Dissapointing result - praccy match or not - so close to the real thing.

Yeah we have some players to come back and guys like Baker etc arent what they were and will take time but a 10 goal smashing with another 2nd qtr mess and little potentcy going fwd is a concern.

I do think Port are the smokey team to rise rapidly this year - they are well coached and do seem a side who rebounds quite quickly.

Did we chip sideways again? - Im more interested in how we are playing.

If we did Ross needs to address this and the players need to start showing from the the first bounce that they are capable of producing 4 qtr football of a standard they did when coming back against Lions.

Port sound like they had a full side in and while we are never flash against them (even just scraping in last year and lets face it theyve been a bogey side for years) I expected a little more encourging signs.

Main hope is that X isnt injured serious again or that Max hasnt stuffed something up proper before the real stuff starts.

Thanks Sunsaint....bit of a worry that the midfield was so inept...

exactly.

Be happy if we make the eight this year.....we need firepower up forward.

Who have we gained over last year in that regard?

Who will cover Harvey's loss?

But it's a genuine rebuild year, so if we are a bit shabby, it's a least excuseable IMO.

I love exercises :(
saint66au wrote: Name the players who didnt play today but 10000% will be playing in Round 1
10000% is going a bit over the top however given the two week break of those who missed today I would expect King Gardiner Lenny Gram and Raph all to play - as far as I am aware we have no long term injuries except Eddy and Dempster - so that is close to 1/4 of our side who did not play today who would be walk up starts given they have all had 3 weeks to recover and freshen up
saint66au wrote: Now...from those..name those who were Top 10 in our B&F last year?
That question is irrelevant considering all those players missing bar Eddy are seriously important to the make up of our side
saint66au wrote: I think you'll find 9 of our best 10 players were on the park today
Well for what's worth you are wrong as both Lenny and Gram were in the top 10 but as i said it is irrevelant given the other 3 guys (King, Gardiner and Raph all of whom are extremely important to the structure of our side) could at any stage be considered in the top 10 given the roles they play
saint66au wrote:and its the quality of the next 10 that are the problem for us.
I'd say it's a problem for 15 other sides as well which puts us in the same boat as everyone else ie: you take out 5 of the best 15 players (or 10 players) in any side and they will struggle - Geelong and Hawthorn included!!!!

Sorry to burst you bubble SS but I think you will find that Rucks are also considered as midfielders and we were missing both of ours and we were playing against probably the best ruck combination in the league - oh and gram missed as well
