Saints best coaches last 50yrs

Post: # 704442Post mbogo »

1. Jeans
2. Alves
3. Thomas
4. Lyon
5. Sheldon
6. Killigrew

I did not see one of them coach - and only liked one genuinely.
But things can change :)
What a bunch!

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

Mike Patterson second to Jeans.

Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Alves is the only coach since Jeans to get the Saints to a Grand Final....He has to be up there.....

Patterson was a knob...just ask Fox...

Will the Saints ever be classed as a good club ?

Fox was a knob... just ask Patto.

He gave us power football and we were one of the dirtiest and feared teams in 78.

If it wan't for our mid season slump, and made the finals... we could have gone all the way IMO.

He was lumped the year after with a mass exodus of senior players.

anyway...

Jeans

Daylight

the rest

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Obviouly Jeans but dont know if the the rest had long enough to see if they could match his acheivement as the pressure to seek the "holy grail " got too much , not only for the coaches but for the boards & the supporters alike.

Probably was Jeans but if you speak to him he clearly says he was a much better coach at Hawthorn. We had truely great sides in the 60's and yes we won our one and only flag but if Jeans had more experience we could have won another one or two so I am not so sure it is clearly Jeans as most seem to think.

If you're talking strictly in terms of premierships or grand final appearances (and not while just at the Saints) then Malcom Blight has to be close to the top.

1. Jeans
2. Blight

Daylight...

1. Jeans - only coach to a flag
2.3 K Sheldon and S Alves both were unlucky to be sacked
4. T Barker (Resrves Coach0 had a great football brain and wold have coached us.

G Thomas spoke out to much about the umpires which might have costed us a chance to win the flag (losing that game in perth against fremantle)

Alves for sure for me. He was able to get the best out of a good list playing as a great team.

If only he had the list that Ken Sheldon and Grant Thomas had.

One has to mention Jack "Cracker" Knight.

1. Jeans - One of the best VFL coaches of all time.
2. Patterson (built a great list in the 70's, had the rug pulled from under him to some extent), Sheldon (very unfairly sacked), Alves (good job, didn't like the way he coached the GF though), GT (not bad, needed to address fitness).
3. Can't...
4. Think of...
5. Anyone else worth mentioning to my knowledge...bit shady on our pre-Jeans era.

Your just making excuses for him , but ,he didn't cut it......

He went to Richmond some time after the Saints cottoned on to him....

He got the flick there as well...the knob....

Bob, you avatar is very distracting.

Hope I never get into a debate with you..I'll lose through not being able to think straight.

Notice I didn't make a joke about mass debates?
