Then we basically discuss it, and make a choice. Very rarely do people apply.
Hey, I put my hand up...half-heartedly. Given it's an internal affair, and that my application was in protest of poor moderation, I wouldn't have stood a chance right? Looking forward to more 20 page threads of abuse and BC dribble for the season ahead.
Oh, and congrats Armoooo...hehe.
Just taking that a bit further..if you..continually get involved in slanging matches that lead to threads getting locked...or you have a history of agenda-pushing to ludicrous extremes...or you have a continual disrepect for other peoples opinions..then you have bugger-all chance of being a mod
Oh, that goes without saying. However, that not being the case with many of us (there are a noteable few who fit that criteria), it also highlights there are a pool of favourables, who can also flaunt these rules once elected. Is there moderation of mods?
Must point out that I personally don't have any real interest in being a mod, just thought it was a point worth noting.
Well of course we'd have a shortlist of people created when a mod vacancy comes up. How else would we select one. But the shortlist is created afresh each time
As for flouting the rules once elected, I dont know any mod who's done that...not in the 5-odd years Ive been around here..before or after I became one
Oh and yes..we have a Mod Forum that none of you can see (Bwahahahahahahahah) where we grizzle about the rest of you endelssly
Any issues with mods are discussed in-house in there
Trust me..none of us do it for the power-trip. We are just here to try and make SS a nice place for people to visit, stay a while, read and perhaps put pen to paper, as it were.
Very well said 66.
Ill admit that a few of the moderating group do have prior history with Damien (saintsational) and were asked personally by him to be on the team. This isnt favouritism, but at the end of the day he - as the owner and financier - was able to make decisions based on the words of people he knew and trusted.
These days there is alot more choice and its more of an open book... I have never met Armooo, but I cant speak for the others in the group.
We are all here to try (at least) and make this place a better place. We try to extol the virtues of free speech without going too far and of course, we get it wrong sometimes. Theres a fine balance between letting things go and issuing warnings. Right and wrong, free speech, and censorship.
We get alot of PM's every day about how we've allowed things to happen, but if we dont, then we get PMs about being heavy handed and harsh.
Its a lose / lose situation, but all I can say is that we do our best and in my humble opinion, Saintsational is by far and away the best and most open footy forum in the country. Damien set a great example and its one that we want to continue and strive to better going into the future.
