So I assume there will be a "real" session before that.....my guess would be Wednesday.

The Friday session could be just fluff & bubble.

So pleased for Leigh Fisher. Beating Geary and Eddy is no mean feat. Those boys are true atheletes. I am stil a big fan of Fish so hope the extra fitness and endurance can get him into the midfield as a tagger.

AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

It's at 9am, and no, I won't be taking a camera but I'll try to do a report if nobody else does.

I was at training from about 9:20 this morning.

I'm sure others will post a complete report but I thought I would post a few random thoughts.

McEvoy and Steven just ran laps - Steven at the end of training was talking to one of teh fitness guys and discussing some discomfort he had with his hip. He may have a 'niggling hip injury'?

ChuChu and Simpkins were jogging/walking laps

X and Stanley were running laps together.

Allen was on crutches - and seemed to be the only major injury worry.

BJ looks sensational - lean, ripped and fit. And very vocal at training.
If the drills being done at training are indicative of the upcoming season, expect to see him spend considerable time in the midfield.

Roo was a real leader out there. ALways in the first group to do every exercise and then very vocal in talking up the rest of the group.

Dal - looks to have lost some weight adn also looks leaner whist at teh same time more 'chiselled'.

ALl in all 2 things stand out in comparison to this time last year.
-there seems to be much more emphasis on running and quick ball movement
- our 'height' as a Club seems to ahve increased. There is quite a number of players within the group in the 192cms-196cms group.

Blake McGrath is huge in height but very slight.

Bally, Bakes and Goose all look fantastic, although Goose is not doing an awful lot of running.

I didn't see Lenny out there but everybody else deemed to be there.
There were some younger kids out there, seemingly under teh care of Jason McCartney so I assume they are our 'scholarship kids' from NSW?

Finally for all who are interested, especially St Fid, I asked ChuChu how you spell his surname - his answer was (spelled it out for me)

TUNGATALUM :)

I was there for about an hour this morning. Agree with most of what's been said already. I can't say I know the rookies or new draftees so can't comment on them.
Bakes looks like a tank (and I mean that in a positive way) but was just doing laps from what I could tell.
Raph is set to have a huge year. Looks fit, getting involved and it could be the making of him.
Generally the fitness looks pretty good, which is what you would expect at this time of year.
Also very happy that Gardiner looks fit. Would still think that Ross wants him and King as our first two rucks.
Looks like L Fisher, Gram and Goddard are all keen to play in the midfield. BJ has the best footskills in the AFL, he NEVER misses a target.
Only disappointment was X not joining in.

James,
Jack Steven was running laps all session.

Stanley was running laps with X Clarke

The Drug Testers were at training, waiting for it to finish. A couple of our new draftees were given the honour of having to produce a urine sample.

I actually thought that Roo was quite vocal during training and was leading from the front.

In teh simulated 'boudary throw in drills I thought it was interesting to see McGrath pitted against Gardi.
McGrath seemed to hold his ground against Gardi pretty well but has a long way to go in learning to ruck to AFL standard. He's not scared to out his body on the line and it's quite freaky to see him towering over King, Gardi, Kosi and Big Ben.

Was that Simpkins with Choo-choo was it? I thought it was Cahill myself.

Overall I was surprised at how vocal everyone was in general, but of course there were the standouts that have already been mentioned.

I was impressed by Lynch's running - he seemed to be working really hard the entire time, and Steven seemed to have some good consistent pace with his laps, he rarely slowed. I'd like to see more of these guys' footskills though.

Who was the kid with the big curly frizzy lightly coloured hair? I can only assume it's one of the scholarship kids because he and another didn't join in on any of the later huddles.

The goal by ... Gwilt, was it? was a great one, and it was good to see the boys give a bit of a cheer.

As mentioned, McGrath is one massively tall unit, but he's much too gangly as would be expected of someone with his age and experience, I look forward to seeing him stack on the muscle over the coming years.

I'm sure there'll be a whole lot more photos on SaintsCentral as our CLub Photographer was there from beginning to end snapping shots.

Thanks Magic and Remboy.
Does anyone know why X would only be running at this stage?
Was there a post season op? I cant recall if there was, but he should be up and flying at this point.
I would love to see vision of a "fit" looking Gardiner.
I agree BfUSA, Fischer is the perfect package, good size, good build, good speed, I hope it all comes together this year.
And very glad there were no smart@rse comments about the drug testing.
Is that the NSW kid Khan?

X didn't have any post season op as far as I can recall. They may just be taking it very easy with him given his history. I'm also not sure how much he's done up until now. In previous years they've given players a light session from time to time throughout the pre season. Would be worth keeping an eye on him.
Gardi looked quite lean. I recall hearing him say that it was the first pre season in which he wasn't coming back from an operation. Worth noting that in all the drills I saw Kosi and Roo were playing forward and King/Gardi and the kids were doing the ruck work.
Did I mention BJ's kicking? Best I have seen at training since Winmar and that's saying something!
