9. Trolling

"Trolling" is generally considered unacceptable on most Internet sites, including TalkingCarlton.

Post content will be removed with prejudice, and repeated offences may attract a Zero Tolerance response from the TC Moderators.

9.a. What is "Trolling"?

For purposes of defining trolling on TC, we will use the following definition:

Any post that is solely intended to incite controversy or conflict or cause annoyance or offense is considered "trolling".

Note: Many posts may inadvertently cause strife as collateral damage, but they are not necessarily trolls.

Additionally, the content of a "troll posting" generally falls into several areas. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction of common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of a forum / thread / news story or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings.

There are three reasons why people troll forums:

- to get attention;
- to disrupt threads; or
- simply to make trouble.

Career trollers tend for the latter two, whilst the former is the mark of the clueless newbie and should be ignored.

9.b. Why is "Trolling" bad?

The main goal of "trolling" is to incite an emotional or knee-jerk response from other posters. This response is typically in the form of:

- a personal attack;
- a repeat of previous points/posts; or
- an emotional outburst.

Such posts and the responses they generate tend to undermine the friendly atmosphere of TC, and often result in long running feuds between (what can only be described as) factions loyal to one side or the other.

Please note: A negative comment is not automatically "trolling", nor is the expression of an honestly held personal opinion.

Interpretation is the key here, so please frame your responses so that the message is clear.

Maybe if he can be identified to those mods/admins at TC he can be dealt with appropriately by them (mind you given that Club's morals/ethics) they may only apply 'no-trolling' rule to themselves and encourage 'trolling' by their members of other Clubs' forums?

i think that we need a secruity password or something like a question that we can ask the people who are trying to register that ONLY True stkilda supporters know

If you have a look at their 97 page about St Kilda you will see how pathetic that group of sad 40 year old virgins are.

They think the fact that their club has bought 16 premierships means that they are worthy to waste the planet's oxygen, it really is quite sad that a group of fully grown men's greatest pride comes from the achievements of a football club that none of them have any significant influence on.

Disagree, that is too subjective, take Homework the other day, he didn't know who Jack Barker is, just because he didn't know that doesn't mean he has any less of a right to post on here than anyone else, IMO something like that could be considered elitist and every saints supporter is welcome on here in my books, and any other teams supporter as long as they're here to talk footy and not start trouble...
