Back the decision 100% - Well Done Ross.

IMO we have a very good coaching team on our hands. It's now over to the players.

Was music to my ears to read in St Mart's excellent training report that Steven King is very vocal and saying things like "you've got to learn to coach yourselves!" Wrapped with the Kingy - knows what it takes.

Stability breeds Success - Go Saints!

I reckon you can be pretty sure that King is playing for another medal... and not for a pension cheque. He's now earnt the respect of the players, so expect him to show his leadership skills more often.

agreed...he is one of the most vocal out on the field..

i think the addition of him somewhat outsourced helps our younger leaders and assists the development of future leaders

i have a lot of respect for ross lyon.
i had a lot of respect for robert harvey.
the difference i believe was that robert harvey cant deliver a flag and that was shown.
ross lyon has a winning record.
reason enough to re-sign the man in my opinion.

No one man can deliver a flag, it takes a team to do that, Harvey's lack of team success was through no fault of his own...

Your posts are getting weirder and weirder, I'm begining to think you're troll more with every post...

Ross Lyon has won as many flags as a senior coach as Harvey has as a player...

You must really like attention...

Armoooo,
Ross Lyon is a part of the furniture like it or not.
He will be our Tony Roach (Head Coach) for the next ten years.
He is commited to the club and the club is commited to him.
He has been around long enough to know what he is doing.
He is twice-better than GT.
Ross Lyon is intuition personified.

I do indeed ........................................................... and unfortunately even being signed for an extra year wont release him from the clutches of some

but to have three coaches working toward their 4 th year is great- solid base of understanding.

Touche

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

this is a good thing, we need a stable coaching staff and Ross has done enough to get this extra year.....didnt know we had turned over 19 of the list in his first 2 years.....

I agree it takes the heat off the coach and club in the media by doing this early.....there will be a few coaches out of contract next year so this is good.... :D

Even Caro almost said he was doing a good job.....could she be turning around and actually supporting Ross.... :?:

Our best is yet

RL has had two seasons as coach

1st season = below expectations, 2nd = finished strongly and top 4

for the most part, IMO we generally have not played good football, even when we win it has often been of a poor standard.

On the other hand, list development and professionalism wise we're doing really well. Seems like we're buiding towards something special

We'll get a good idea of where we are at by midseason 09.

In 6 months we'll have a great idea as to whether or not this guy can coach

IMO make the decision then

about time we had some stability.
also glad that we did not extend his coaching life for 3 more years as a reward.

a 1 year extention is prudent to me.

I'm actually a bit the opposite.

Lyon hasn't convinced me that he has us headed in the right direction - however it's great to see we have a Board with some ticker who will stick fat (whatever that means!).

Strength through loyalty.

Well done Saints.

Not yet he hasn't. Danny Frawley got Richmond to a prelim final too. Grant Thomas got us to two.

Ross Lyon has got us on the right track and I applaud this decision as it shows confidence and stability.

But he still has a fair bit of ground to cover.

Good to see.

Didn't like the fact we signed Ross Lyon early on, but now I'm happy with him as coach.

As was mentioned before, he's moved 19 players since he's taken over as coach, that's a good thing, he does what has to be done and I applaud that.

Moving players doesn't mean squat.

Moving on ordinary players, and replacing them with ordinary players isn't much value.

In terms of Lyon 'doing what has to be done', I'm still very surprised and quite disappointed that he hasn't made any real tough calls on our list.

Dropping Milne and Dal during the year for not giving enough - would class that as a tough call - with results.

Yeah, true.

Although I still maintain the results that followed were pretty much solely due to the form of Roo.

to be fair it was the form of roo plus us finding better ways, getting him free-er and getting it to him more often
