On Friday December 5, the AFL Players’ Association will host the second annual Madden Medal awards, paying tribute to the achievements of AFL players that have ended their careers in season 2008. The gala event will be held at Peninsula Central Pier at the Docklands and features a who’s who of the football fraternity that will gather for the presentation of the following awards:

The Football Achievement Award
Awarded to Nathan Buckley and James Hird in 2007.

The Personal Development Award
Awarded to James Hird in 2007

The Community Spirit Award
Awarded to Paul Licuria in 2007

Fittingly, the player who has demonstrated excellence in all three of these categories, and who has achieved the mark of a champion, will be awarded the Madden Medal. St Kilda champion Robert Harvey is a 2008 nominee and will face tough competition from a number of other worthy nominees to be announced shortly.

Named in honour of the contributions of two former premiership players and AFLPA presidents, Simon and Justin Madden, this will be the ultimate prize and celebration for those to have left an indelible mark on our great game.

Competition closes Friday November 28 at 5:00pm and the winner will be announced on Monday December 1.
