yep dunno why but Ive always felt similar bout Crawford and ALWAYS felt he was overrated.

I nearly puked when I heard G Lyon denote on radio that Crawford took midfield endurance to the next level.......ahh......scuse me?

Say Harvey couldnt kick like Buckley, say he didnt kick enough goals BUT dont EVER suggest that he wasnt the ORIGINAL running machine.

Crawford since about 2000 has to me been a struggling actor/dancer wanna be gigolo/comedian who played footy on the side and spent most of his time attemtping to impress his medai mates.

THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!!

Tool.
He lost me when I saw on TV that his 'impromptu Brownlow acceptance speech with tears' had been rehearsed and rehearsed, even down to the tears.
I met Crawford many years ago when he was just starting out....to say he was 'on himslef' would be an understatement.

Ive also met Harvey.

There is no comparison.

if hawks lost maybe then they would want Crawf to get it but who ever gets it will be worthy and the runner ups just as worthy anyway in my books be good if it is a draw between Harvs and Crawf !

Mal Michael, who I didn't like as a person but who was a very good footballer, has done an awful lot to promote the game in Papua New Guinea and has set up a foundation there... his community work may be recognized. Dunno.

I reckon Crawf would be an appropriate winner......he's high profile, great player, premiership player.

The Footy Show Persona IMO is very put-on and not the real person.

After reading the criteria, I'm convinced he'll win it. The premiership has given him the edge over Harvs unfortunately.

Harvs has always been too low profile to win this sort of thing.....not that is anything against the great man.

Crawford won the Football Achievement Award. I don't know who won the other awards.

And the winner is... HARVES!

Well done Harvs!!

Do they take bets on the Madden Medal because the Herald Sun web-site jumped the gun with the press release and had the article confirming Harvey's win (with a 4.00pm time) on the site at around noon today!!

Must have realised their error as it was later removed and then re-posted.

Harvey forever pledged his heart to the Saints during his acceptance speech, but was quick to assure his new employers they shouldn't expect anything less than his best.

"It's more about my job than anything and working with the young guys rather than being a 'Carlton man' or whatever," he said.

"I want to help the young guys I work with. Obviously I'm fresh out of being 21 years at St Kilda so when I say 'my heart's there', it always will be I suppose in a lot of ways.

"But I'll be fanatical and committed to doing my job at Carlton with the young guys and helping them through.

"I suppose you take the emotion out of it a little bit and just do your job you're employed to do. I've got some messages I'd like to pass on to the young guys and hopefully I can do that."

Robert Harvey is the 2008 Madden Medallist

ST KILDA champion Robert Harvey was named the 2008 AFL Players' Association Madden Medallist at a gala ceremony in Melbourne on Friday.

Harvey, who brought his decorated 21-year career to an end this year, was awarded the medal in recognition of his achievements as a player and a person.

I'm pretty disappointed that Crawford got the football achiement award... Sure he has a premiership but he had very little impact at all and they would have just as easily won it without him...

West is a 7 or 8 BF winner
I reckon West's career virtually ended in 2006 when we sent Powell out with the instruction to give away a free kick every time West looked like getting an important possession. Making him kick over the mark rather than dictating play with his hands reduced him to a joke.

An easy/cheap tactical ploy like that would never have stopped Robert Harvey. In the end only age - just - got him...
