Maybe as Supporters we over rate our list

Post: # 584737Post older saint »

Perhaps where we are on the ladder reflects our ability as a group. We have beaten below us, lost to those above ( syd exception) and split even with us - Carlton , Port.

Strengths - hard midfield and power forwards
Weaknesses - Lack of Pace, Lack of def accountability , injury prone players

If you had to rate our top 10 this year it shows something. In no particular order:

Reiwoldt
Hayes
Harvey
S Fisher
Goddard
Ball
then it gets harder
Dal Santo
Milne
Hudghton
Raffle the next spot -you could almost argue Blake or M Gardiner

As you can see it falls away significantly

Not stepped up as we needed:
Montagna ( inconsistant)
Gram ( see montagna)
Fiora ( fallen back into old habits)
X Clarke ( injury prone)
Maguire ( potential to be next D Schwartz come back as a servicable player but never reach the heights that once appeared possible)
R Clarke( I think needs a go forward and confidence)
Kosi ( probably harsh as delivery so important . Every game he gets long term is better)

Improved as would have hoped:
Armitage
C Jones
Geary
Ferguson ( better as a forward)

Will always be player 20-25
Birrs
Rix
L Fisher
Gwilt

Recruits
King (servicable)
Schnieder( jury is out)
Dempster ( looks ok as has pace and size)
C Gardiner( got himfor nothing I guess) Always 20-25

Young and developing
McEnvoy
Allen
Connors
Howard

Bottom line our list after the top 8 hasn't stepped up. We have , inthe words of Jack Dyer a number of good ordinary players. Until some of these step up we are where our list dictates

We were playing great footy, our guns were firing and we had some top kids coming through.

It all went backwards from there.

I think as supporters you always overrate your own list - it's part of the optimism of being a supporter. The problem for us is the media REALLY overrated our list and many of us bought into it. I honestly don't think that the club overrates its list. I think they know exactly where we are.

Your post confuses me - as do most when people talk about lists.

If the players on our list are capable of stepping up - then how can it be our list that it no good?

My understanding of the term 'list', is the names you have on paper.

It's based on what they've done, and what they can do based on recent form.

Our names on paper, are very, very good.

The way they are playing together is not very good. That's not the list.

They play like paper tigers.

I usually have a spare if the good lady wife doesn't joint me. Otherwise I just spread my fat ass out LOL or at least put my motorbike helmet on the spare seat rather than under my seat so that pr!ck behind me doesn't keep spilling beer on it!!!

its not how you rate the list its more how the list performs that matters we have a lot of potential stars who are only potential . we need some of them to get a wwake up call ala Garry Ablet Jr style and know potential gets you only soo far its effort that pushes you over the line !!!
