Another with his first kick. I think he was number 564 to do it.

thanks for your help guys

I was there and remember the stink over morwood and foschini playing without clearances, but the debut of one of the greatest players to have played somehow escaped my notice.

Yeah, the back page of the Herald Sun sports lift out a few weeks ago highlighted the match.

Spoke of the ho-ha about Foscini and Morwood and spoke to a few of the players involved.

It mentioned as a side-note that a bloke wearing 37 named Tony Lockett made his debut and kicked a goal with his first kick. It also made mention of the fact that he was commuting from Ballarat.

Interesting article.

Didn't Mark "Jacko" Jackson have to make way to fit him in? Or is my memory mucking around with me?

I thought it was against Geelong at Waverley.
And he played on the wing.

Yes, Jacko was the FF in those days.

I remember the match at Arden strret as I was in the outer.
It was the opening round and Plugger played in the reserves.
From memory he kicked about 4.

I think you may be right....Jacko was given the arse after kicking 10 goals against Shytme in Sydney for that reason.

It is talked about on Saints and Sinners DVD.

After all the planning then coach Tony Jewell had done to structure up a potentially good forwardline with Silvio Foschini to crumb - Jacko just told everyone to eff off, "I'll kick all the goals in this club" he is alleged to have told the coach!! So, big Plugger got the nod, Jacko the boot and the rest is history..

Sounds like that kid learned from Jacko! He seemed to have a similar philosophy with respect to forward structure.

Lovely moments on the terraces at moorabbin - during one of the carnival vibe interstate games (when the non Vics were hopeless) - folk yelling out "feed the fat man" while he was on one of his sprees.

Just to clear things up ....

He played 12 matches in his first year - 1983.

He debuted in R4 against Geelong at Waverley kicking 2 goals from the wing.

He did play against North, but it was at Moorabbin (not Arden St.) in R12 (his 3rd game).

And he failed to kick a goal in that match.

For interest
In his 183 games for us he kicked 898 goals an average of 4.91 per game.
Only Hudson (5.64) and Coleman (5.48) had higher averages.
He was goal-less in just 13 of those matches.

hudson and coleman played in good teams for most of their careers, but i don't think you can say the same for plugger.

also, the hawks had a special gameplan for hudson. they'd chuck everyone on the ball and give him the whole forward line.

In the 13 games he was goaless, in how many of these games did the team in which he played win? I know he kicked 12 one day in a loss.
