Best Squad for last 20 years

Post: # 463637Post older saint »

Was thinking of the best StKilda team you could put together in the last 20 years.

Here is my effort:

B:Shannahan, Frawley,Baker
HB: Grant, Hudghton, Peckett
C:McAdam, Hayes, Jones
HF: Reiwoldt, Loewe, Hamill
F: Gehrig, Lockett, Winmar
Ruck: Everitt, Harvey, Burke

Int: Dwyer, Kosi, Sziller, Thompson

Real lack of ruckmen hence Kosi in ,
Unlucky: D Wakelin, Morris, Milne,

Off the top of myhead so I am sure I have left out a couple obvious ones.

I reckon Shanahan and Sziller are lucky to get a run !!!!!

Sziller - you may be right but i thought really under rated

Dal - Thought about this one , and give probably 1 more year yes, but I remember Dwyer as a good midfielder who then became a goal kicking flanker, especially 1991 1992
Still could not go wrong with either

Ball ahead of Sziller IMO - Ball is an All-Australian, B&F winner

Maybe S. Fisher ahead of Shanahan - although Chips hasn't played as many games.

Milney stiff (250 goals for the club) but talented forwardline.

Baker ahead of Dwyer too.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Barker- past best by then and often injured. A great player though.

Ball Good argument , perhaps I just rated Sziller higher than most

Shannahan got S Fisher covered at this stage.1 swallow doesn't make a summer
Baker is in back pocket

Frank Coghlan
Jayson Daniels
Tim Pekin
Dean Rice
Brett Voss

intresting debate, good post

I reckon we could slot Con Gorozides somewhere.

Lot of movement here?:
B Hall
Smith
Sheldon
Swap Winmar to Wing for MacAdam
Sziller Thommo Dwyer to unlucky

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

B:s. Barker , Frawley, Dean Rice
HB: Grant, Hudghton, Brett Voss
C: winmar , Hayes, Jones
HF: Reiwoldt, , Loewe, Hamill
F: Gehrig, Lockett, Milne
Ruck: Everitt, Harvey, Burke

Int: Dal Santo, Keogh, Powell, Thompson

I think trevor barker just qualifies, I thought he retired in 89, but happy to be corrected.

I've added keogh and greig because although they had truncated careers they were really hard at it for us and created a path for our midfielders. I had to include 2 of keogh, dean greig and stephen powell and I think powells skills were ahead of greigs and rockets.

mcadam played about 50 games for us, and I think the contribution of winmar far excees that on the wing.

i've thrown in Milne for a small forward, I think his several hundred goals for st kilda count for something.

Our forward line has certainly had some talent with craig obrien, dean rice, barry hall, heatley not getting a run in the team, but I've found a place for deano in the back pocket where he played some brilliant football for us as well.

Luke ball will probably squeeze into the team eventually but at 23 the contribution over time of thomo, burke, etc push him out.

Definately.

Dwyer was a "kick it and hope" midfielder.

NDS's disposal heaps better.
