Rix re-signed ? footytalk podcasts?

Post: # 457580Post saintbrat »

has anyone heard of this site and or know of it's sources?
http://www.footytalk.com.au/wordpress/?p=1940
this edition states that Rix re-signed for three years same time as Nick and Nick'

AFL Season 2007. Show 18 - Round 16.
In one of the biggest off-field weeks in living history, we look at the sackings that have happened, the sackings that should happen and the sackings that may possibly happen. From Connolly and Pagan, to Farmer and finally Sheedy.

One thing about footy is that it is never dull. The game always throws up a lot of things to discuss away from the field but that’s one thing that makes the sport the total package.

Enjoy this weeks show which is approximately 1hr 14mins long.

Not only did the media miss the Rix signing but so did the Saints official website and (from what I could see) the SaintSational fan forum. Name your source?

I would find it hard to believe they would sign Rix for three years. If they did OMG!!!

Three years for a VFL-quality backup ruckman would be ridiculous. He should be retained this year as an emergency option in case both of Gardiner and Kosi are unavailable, but he has proven that he is not good enough to do anything more than fill in as backup.

Could just be that the other guys signed for 3 years, and Rix signed for 1 or 2 at the same time, and the information got mixed up along the way. Signing Rix for 3 years he better be on base payments, otherwise it's as bad as the Blues signing Ackland for 3.

Have a crack at Rix? Are Carlton suckers for punishment? They have already taken 1 dud ruckman off our hands. they couldnt be dumb enough to go for another. Not to mention Barnaby French, Dylan Mclaren, Adrian Deluca. Dear oh Dear there is some duds in that lot.

Even if Carlton wanted him - which I strongly doubt - surely they are welcome to him for a mid level draft pick - 3rd round will do me fine.

I dont care whether The New York Jets want him - hes a dud and not worth any more than a 1 year contract. Over and out.

He's a good back up ruckman. He's a known commodity, and is an extremely hard worker. While I doubt the club has given him a 3 year contract i would not be disappointed to see him retained for another couple of years.
I don't agree with the all the Rix bashing that goes on here, he given more to this team than some other players have in recent years.

Im happy to keep Rixy on on a year to year rolling contract basis. Im just saying you dont give people 3 years based on a rumour that another club might be interested. You give him one on his own merits. If someone else offers more years - like everitt and ackland - well good luck to him and let him go and wish him well/

But for the good of the saints - offer him 1 year at base salary and keep him on. then re-assess at the ened of the year.

Those that are on our list:

Brooks
Watts
Ferguson
Gardiner
R. Clarke
M. Clarke
McQualter
Gwilt
Hamill

As well as the one that left as well (although it can be argued that he had one good year)

some of them haven't been given 2% of the number of chances rix has been given.......and they can all kick a footy, take a mark and kick the occasional goal....all feats beyound rix......ffs...

rix is a dud....full stop....

No he's not. Seaby, Biglands, Brogan, Everitt, Hale, Longmuir and Blake are good backup ruckmen. Rix is an ordinary 3rd-string ruckman who does not contribute to the team.

He's a backup ruckman who can compete and whose body can stand up to the battering of AFL football.

Worse ruckmen have played in premiership sides on several occasions.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Clutching at straws?

Oh by the way, Brooksy doesn't even equate to the shoe polish on Rix's boots.
