"He will have that to remember for the rest of his life"

I assume you never started your oft (self) lauded illustrious park cricketing career carrying the drinks as twelfth man?

Can you imagine a first year player saying, "Nah, it's cool thanks, Ross. I'm not being a sub Round One, thanks, mate..."

No

I didn’t ever carry the drinks

Of course he wouldn’t object - shouldn’t have happened in the first place

Clusterfuck by the match committee

I wish I had had the chance to be shitty for the rest of my life that I was a sub in my debut AFL game.

Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

Exactly l hate the way our forwards turn their backs to the goals , they seem to all do it and then most miss the goal
Everyone line up for seano's "running backwards" 3km time trial.

Yes the AFL foots the bill for family member(s) to attend a recruits FIRST AFL game regardless of whether they are an intrastate, interstate or international recruit. All clubs do it. Don’t know how many tickets & travel expenses are paid for. I guess there is a limit to the freebies when it comes to travel & accommodation expenses.

How’d you feel about Collard’s debut Loris?

He was burnt twice by King and once by Owens, if it had been an ideal world he would possibly have had 3 goals then it would have been a masterstroke to have Collard as a sub. Alas, we will never know as he may have had the yips like most Saint forwards & kicked points or OOB on F from unmissable shots if King & Owens had been selfless.!!

Like you I was surprised he was made sub, however from the little I could gather from his running patterns ( as TV is a bit limiting way to watch ) Collard knows where to position himself for an out the back goal if his team mates have confidence in him to get it to him.

Of the team that was selected, I would have had Windhager as the sub, and would have crossed my fingers that Collard, would have been able to be our poor man’s Butler for the day. Now there is one classy player we are missing. Saints definitely need the pressure, speed & canniness of Butler.
It was interesting that Liam Henry was the only Saint to receive votes in the Coaches’ votes.

From Ross

He is clearly a Lyon favourite

Never seen a coach pigeon hole and have favourites like Lyon

He is famous for it

If he puts a line through you - you’re done!

If he loves you - you get umpteen chances

I wasn’t surprised he was sub

I was mystified- very strange call to have a forward pocket as Sub - bizarre

Especially a first gamer at the cattery who weighs 68KG

It was pointless

If only we still had Billings. eh. Or Coffield, or Gresham.
But we don't.
Collard is the future. Billings et al were part of a dismal past. But why try to change it up.
What was Ross thinking, looking to the future. Shocking philosophy. Rightly pilloried.

Ross didn’t make those decisions- Stephen Silvagni and Recruiter did - not sure who that is.. we sacked Toce I believe

I agree Billings needed to go, as did Gresham and Coffield - all three will have significant impact at their new clubs as Ball, Dal Santo, McEvoy, Goddard, Stanley, Tom Lynch etc have done

Collard - may be ok - long way to go there - but there is no way he should have debuted as Sub - not sure who’s idea that was - but it was terrible

Hardly terrible.
And yes the lad may be ok.
For sure better judges think so.

Is he seriously thinking we should have matched Essendon’s offer of paying Gresham ~ 700K a year for 5 years?

Did Coffield play for the Dawgs the other day?

The parallel wasn’t talent level

It was they left StK and will make other teams better

Ironically they were all first round draft picks
3, 8, 15

As Barry Hall, Peter Everitt, Joel Smith, Matty Lappin

The list goes on

We have butchered many things - player retention is another

We crushed the Barry Hall trade…
Nick Dal Santo, Heath Black and Josh Houlihan but the last pick could have been a plethora of good players that we got wrong e.g Brian Lake, Dane Swam, Brad Miller, Adam Schneider, Paul Medhurst and Paul Salmon.

Everite trade was decent too but we fluffed the picks. Could have been Andrew Mackie, Hamish McIntosh, Steven Salopek + Jared Rivers, Daniel Merrett or Brad Murphy

Hamil, Gehrig, Riewoldt and Kosi

You’d prefer Hall to Dal and Black?

As some others have said, Collard easily could have had 3 shots on goal if his teammates didn't burn him. Could've been the matchwinner. Had some zip and ran to the right spots
