List Management

Post: # 2039993Post B.M »

Would love to know the exact role of the following

Stephen Silvagni
Gubby Allen
Simon Dalrymple

Who is doing list management

Who is doing trading

Who is doing drafting

All three are vastly different and require different skill sets

Interestingly the Dalrymple recruitment hasn't been announced by the club yet.

I'd expect the org structure would be made clearer then.

My feel is that Sos will do the contract management piece (existing players), with Gubby and Dalrymple sharing the drafting role, with Gubby in a more 'feet on the ground' role, and Dalrymple leading trading.

Silvagni - List Manager
Allan - Head of Talent and Acquisition
Dalrymple - Talent identification and Player movement Manager

Looks like a three headed dragon to me.

I'd say SOS works with the coaches to manage lists and contracts.

Allan would be working with other club list managers and player managers for trading and scouting.

Dalrymple - managing scouting, working with schools and regional leagues AFL area development officers to identify talent from various pathways and putting those players were they need to be to be developed.

Drafting is specific- recruiting elite talent through the drafts
Trading is specific- bringing in players from other clubs
List Management- dealing with contracts and TPP

Allan is the head of talent and acquisition.

I'm assuming he identifies the targets (talents) that are required by the coaches(game plan)

Currently that is speed and skill and has been since 2020.

The first real time we had compiled a decent list in over a decade, since Lyon was last at the club.

Our own development pathway lead that initiative and produced 4 talents.

1 did not survive.

Dalrymple will be assigned with the taks of identification of these talents outside of the 1st round of the national draft.

We will have to track development through the pathways and monitor this with scouts.

Schools provide this development and feed into the under 18's.

Sydney grab kids at 12-14 and guide them through academies, schools and clubs all over Victoria and now NSW.

Dalrympal identify those on the periphal of the leagues development pathways and track the movement (progression) of those players.

We will define our best 35 within 2 years and churn through the other players until they improve or get replaced.

It wreaks of proper business recruitment management.

AFL players are in a ruthless industry.

We don't want to repeat the nightmare run of the 2010 and hold onto subpar talent for too long.

Statistics and do most of the work.

Dalrymple Silvagni and Allan will identify the names attached to the talents required and try to gain access to them and direct them to our pathways

They have to get the right players from somewhere to apply the development of the game plan

In the 2010's we left that up to the first round and chose players with good stats, set up in a system designed to produce first round picks. with natural talent.

Those players never cut the mustard but dominated our TPP and failed to set standards that align with finals football, we were f***ed because of that.

We just got rid of the last of them.

Even the highly lamented Lynch was pale in comparison to Mr Riewoldt given their strengths and physical profile and achieved about half of what Nick did.

I wonder what Nick beep test was like?

Too easy. I can bridge that list and will try to use simple terms and (polite) analogies.

This was your first question.

Would love to know the exact role of the following

Stephen Silvagni
Gubby Allen
Simon Dalrymple

Who is doing list management

Who is doing trading

Who is doing drafting

All three are vastly different and require different skill sets

Silvagni - List Manager.

Rates the value of players and assigns them to a ranking within the TPP budget, forecasting the impacts on the list and the status of our 'war chests' for future trading of players who have established themselves as 'identified talent'. If he didn't consider development his Nick name might be Trout.

Draftees have set rules for contracts. He would consider draftees through their position selected in the draft, their development in the first 2 years and their achievements on and off field in the plan that the recruiter talked to them about before recruiting them. This Lyon, Dalrymple and SOS at work. Lot of people will be in on the decisions.

Big trade recruits set their own prices too, the investment will be long term and the only development t needed is to work the game plan around them.
You trade them in to cover a weakness. This is Lyon, Silvagni and Allan at work.

Young players who nominate us would have their development tracked, they know when their contracts about to come up that we liked their projected output based on skillset development and movement through their clubs rankings. This is Dalrymple identifying their potential and Gubby looking at trades while the TTP already has a gap for them to fit in - Silvagni.

NWM, Owens, Windy and Phillipou are a perfect example of success recruitment and development. Check out who runs our programs and the work they do in the development thread. That's are development base, the academies and programs. We must have seen them coming early. I wonder how?

This is your next post which was misguided

Drafting is specific- recruiting elite talent through the drafts
Trading is specific- bringing in players from other clubs
List Management- dealing with contracts and TPP

I have a Business management, HR and Psychology background but I'm no expert on these topics either. I'm just a very keen student of the game.

You can check this out and others in my development thread.

If you think you already know the answer, it's a good idea to ask the question anyway.

How you deal with learning something you didn't know or really consider before you asked the question doesn't really matter when the synapses happens in your brain, you in particular, will know you were right all along.

Arrogance and ignorance are easily exchanged. We will both get over the trauma very quickly.

Keep posting questions, there's lots of big sMart cookies and big sMart asses here, you are in good company.

If this post is edited or deleted then I can't help you, sorry.

You don't build four pillars just to erect silos on each post.

In builders terms you put a roof over them to manage them from a linear approach from the top down. You build level storey's that all contribute to the composure of the structure.

In a revisionist view, they will just be titled a ruin when someone comes to discover what went wrong.

There some more wank for you.

If their titles were more specific and defined- we would know what they are responsible for

Instead of just making s*** up

Should I quote??
