Windhager is an endurance beast.
Bonner is quick.
Marshall’s endurance for a ruckman is elite.
Max King doesn’t use it as well as he could in games but is super quick for +200cm.
Byrnes is fringe but a very, very good runner with decent pace and endurance.
Camaniti is really quick for his size.

We are building a team/ style that will be very different to other clubs.

May not work but you have to love the plan behind it.

It will work D.B. if our skills hold up under pressure. Fingers crossed, speed & spread from every line will be our point of difference. Especially if we continue our two way running discipline.

May be a couple of pre seasons away but the green shoots are there 🤞

But no strength or body size.

Our high speed game won us 6 on the trot this year but Port found us out when they went physical on us.

Now we have doubled down on that, we must be backing ourselves hard on it.

I think the long kicking and footskills is the part of the equation we were missing this year.

It's well and good to have all this blistering speed, but our achilies heal this year was the lack of forward penetration, or more specifically the excessive number of times oppositions intercepted and cleared the ball around our half forward line.

Hopefully we can find a way to get some 'Riewolt like' marking strength in our forward line. Perhaps Philipou and Owens can develop and become more effective in this crucial area.

I think that you are forgetting about the marking strength of Membrey (who always has played above his height). Hopefully, after personal "stuff" has settled and he has a good, injury-free, pre-season, he can be the player he was a couple of seasons ago.

The list emphasis on speed as well as endurance running will have been another factor in both Billings and Gresham going.

Post his injuries I reckon that Gresham lost some of his pace, plus his kicking distance.

LOL - but not his kicking height

We seem to be bringing in a more running style of player, but although we look ok on the outside run, we still need extractors who can accelerate from stoppages and centre bounces, so it will be interesting to see how Lyon constructs the midfield next season

I’d love us to use Windhager in a permanent tagging role, with Steele and Dow joining him in the middle.
Crouch on the bench giving Steele a chop out..Jones (if fit) also on the bench giving Dow a chop out.
Sinclair getting more midfield time would also help!
Owens & Phillipou getting their minutes in there also would be good for their development.

I agree. Look how tagging has helped out Jack Steeled game now. Would help Windhagers development by tagging the stars and nullifying their output in games. Clamping down a Lachie Neele for example would allow Steele and Dow to work their magic more.

Yeah it was a curious move away from that this year. Coming into 2023, he looked set to blossom as a tagger that could hurt you the other way and it was frustrating to watch him struggle in a defensive flanker role.

The inside scuttle was that they were trying to develop other aspects of his game but I was pretty happy with where he was going

I remember a series of consecutive losses to visiting gaelic teams who were just too quick for us, and Sheedy finally sorting it out by picking faster players ... overall speed of the side in and of itself can make a big difference.

This bloke and Clark could end up a killer clearance duo.
