Apparently Carlton and Melbourne were all interested in him but signed up to St Kilda in August.

From various sources across the web:
20 years old
188cm tall
Very quick
Plays half forward type role whatever that means in Gaelic football.
Lived in Australia between the ages of 4-11 so has some background in the game.
Was highly sought after and considered a big loss for his club.

I can see why there seems to be a general motivation within the playing group to do more to impress. Default walk up starts for about a third of the list probably a thing of the past. Getting to a point where there will be serious competition for a number of places?

Could get confusing if we recruit a Liam McConnell along with Liam O’Connell.

To difficult, I think we should pass.

If anyone could be bothered to watch 80 mins of gaelic football, here's a recent U20 Cork game ... Liam O'Connell is number 11 (red guernsey).

Sounds like a decent prospect. Would be great to finally have an Irishman become a serviceable player who stick around for a good while. Maybe Liam can develop into that guy 🤞

Just checked out a few seconds of it. The commentary sounds amazing. Far more intelligible than the likes of BT and JB

Mc is Scottish way of saying bastard son of
O' is Irish way of saying bastard son of

They had so many bastard sons of in the British Isles is past centuries.
So McConnell is almost the same as St Kilda recruit O'Connell

Mac / Mc is Irish and Scottish and means son of

O’ is Irish only and means grandson.

Neither of them are specific about marriage status.
