Who do we want in the ND

Post: # 2036336Post B.M »

Time to put it out there - before the draft.

Windsor and Wilson likely to be gone

Options
Tholstrup
Hardemann
De Mattia

Any others?

My want is Harry De Mattia
He is from my neighbourhood and I used to see him in the nets having a bat regularly. Possibly the best Junior cricketer I have ever seen! But also a gun junior footballer who dominated junior age footy to the point it was ridiculous. Solid at TAC cup level and in the champs - he is a powerful athlete- tested well at the combine.
I think he’ll be the Luke Parker of the draft

A player who went at pick 40 despite a junior CV that was unbelievable.

Harry can handle pressure - opening the batting in Premier Firsts with Will Pucovski at Melbourne CC age 16 is a fair indication of that!

He can play any position.

And I want the bayside lad

I want:

Pick 13 - slide to 16 - Ollie Murphy. He is a gun key back. He is a saints supporter. Bleeds red white and black. Looks up to Wilkie. Will be an absolute gun. Will be good depth going forward if Dougal leaves and will replace him. Can learn from Wilkie and Boris. Needs to be taken. Van Es will take the gorillas going forth and Murphy will be the interceptor. Think May and Lever.

Pick 21 - slide to 26 - Hardeman. I know everyone will scream get a f****** midfielder, but sorry they will all be gone at this point and next years draft is way better for mids anyway. He is a WA boy who plays half back and is an elite runner and has a sexy left foot. He also is a mad saints supporter and bleeds red white and black so no go home factor there. Will allow Sinclair to play more midfield and again will be tutored by Boris. Imagine him and NWM at each half back, will be a force to reckon with for coming years.

Pick 40s - slides to 35ish - best available but I reckon a small forward of some kind for depth.

Pick 92 - will be a rookie pick and probably used on a tall or to nab Dan McKenzie if his calf is right.

Our picks are too late it's going to come down to what others pick. For me, not worth thinking about until draft day.

STRENGTHS:
+ Competitiveness
+ Kick penetration
+ Leadership
+ Speed
+ Tackling
+ Versatility
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Accumulation
- Composure
Power and explosiveness form the crux of De Mattia's game; from his speed, to penetrative kicking and hard tackling. He's the type of two-way player who can burst out the front of a stoppage or stop slick opposition midfielders from doing the same.
De Mattia's defensive appetite is ravenous, applying menacing pressure as he hunts the ball carrier. He averaged a tick under five tackles across 11 Talent League games, with his competitive streak applicable as a pressure forward, lockdown defender, or inside midfielder.
It's that kind of versatility, and ability to translate his traits to several roles that makes De Mattia so appealing. He's clean and competitive at the contest, but has the work rate to play outside or break the lines off half-back - seamlessly switching between contrasting styles.
Another measure of De Mattia's power is his booming boot. The left-footer can clear 50 metres with flat kicks, albeit if he blazes away at times. That's an area of improvement for the utility, who can gain serious meterage, but will need to develop his composure and decision making

Booming left footer

Not sure where you got your info

He could kick when he was 13, because I saw him slot 10 in a half from the midfield

Just to point out the decision he had to make

He would’ve been in the top couple of u19 cricketers in the country if he chose cricket. Point being, he is a serious sporting talent - freak in fact.
If he concentrated solely on footy as a kid, and wasn’t committed to premier cricket from 14yo he’d be further advanced

He will be a bargain at pick 18-25

It's from De Mattia's early highlight videos which were very underwhelming re: disposal efficiency

That said you look at this one and his kicking is very good

Looks like he kicks it ok to me ✅

Going on those highlights

I think he will be an absolute steal in the twenties

I have him in front of Tholstrop due to versatility and leadership

I’m a fan of Cooper Simpson and Charlie Edwards…both mids, quick with class.
Watching Simpson’s highlights package, he’s the exact mid we need.
I’d be very happy if we got those 2 plus Shaun Mannagh.

I just watched Simpson highlights holy moly he is like LDU.

If we could get Murphy, Edwards and Simpson in all three picks we would have won the draft. Use our last pick on either McKenzie or Managh.

I really have no idea... just some uneducated opions. Looking at the highlights Charlie Edwards looks solid, 200 game player. De Mattia looks impactful, but im concerned about his production. So I'd be delighted to secure Charlie Edwards fir our 1st and De Mattia with our second. Cooper Simpson looks ok so pick 40 of later would be about right. And imagine grabing Shaun Mannagh with pick 92.

I find the speculation interesting and have read what other posters say and have even done a bit of research myself, including watching many YouTube draftee profiles. However what I think we need may be far away from what Ross Lyon's plan is and whose still available when it's our turn. Unlike a few others, I think the club has done very well so far with the in's and out's, even though it's sad to see some from our list going out the door and do hope to see McKenzie comes back.

We don't have to have grab a flag this year but I yearn to see a notable improvement in the 2024 list and performances.

I do like Charlie Edwards too.

Something like

1st Pick - Murphy

2nd Pick - Edwards / Hardeman

3rd Pick - Simpson

4th Pick (Rookie) - Mannagh or DMAC

Murphy likely to be gone by our pick

Hardemann definitely won’t be there for our second pick (about 27/8)

I’m bullish on Murphy. I reckon he will slide to us.

We have to use our second on Edwards though. He looks the goods.

I cannot add to the list of players - I just want to ask a question. Is it true that Ollie Murphy is a bit slow? I read this somewhere and thought you may be able to help answer the question. I have no idea. Cheers.

Ollie Murphy plays like a hybrid of Harris Andrews and Callum Wilkie. He’s not your bloke that would play on a big gorilla - that would be more Van Es. But he looks the goods.

We need players who hit straight drives, instead of shanking it through the covers.

I’ve changed my tune.

Need to draft Koltyn THOLSTRUP (spelling). Kid is a Saint supporter from WA. Go home factor is quelled. Kid is a bull, plays amongst men in the WAFL. Kicks nearly a goal a game. Plays that hybrid PAPLEY / ZURHAAR medium half forward that would replace Gresham. Kid can kick a ball a long distance and is super accurate. Really strong too. Needs to be taken out our first pick.

I reckon our second pick Edwards is gone so maybe Hardeman or Simpson.

He kicked 7.10 in senior footy. Super accurate?
