Am I right in saying that FA Compo is not guaranteed

The notion that we automatically get pick 13 for Gresham is not a fait accompli- there is a magic formula that the AFL applies and no one knows the exact numbers

Also, if we get a FA ourselves it can effect the Compensation we get for Gresham - ie/James Jordan

That is completely correct.
If we are trying for pick 13 or even a pick at the end of the first round for Gresham then Jordan is off the table.

Clubs can find out from afl what compo is before agreeing to match deal or not for restricted.
750k to 800k min 4 years gets r1 compo - seems a big stretch for Gresham obviously

If Gresham left and we wanted Jordan then we swap late picks or ship them a 4th rounder as free agency compo is limited anyway - clubs do this to keep good will

No one seems to know exactly how the AFL works out free agency compo, hence, some media types refer to it as the secret herbs and spices formula.

If we do want Jordan (and if he picks us as several clubs are interested in him) he is just swapped for a late draft pick as the Dees would not be generating anything useful as FA Compo to them anyway.
