The run home

Post: # 2019233Post SydneySainter »

We’re still in 5th spot but will likely lose that to victor of todays Crows v Dons match.

However, we will still be in 8.

Run home is as follows -

Sun at GC - probably lose based on current form and injuries.
North at Marvel - should win
Hawks at Marvel - despite the previous disaster, should win
Blues at Marvel - should win
Tigers at Marvel - hard to pick. At current, I would say lose
Cats at Marvel - lose
Lions at Gabba - lose

If the above predictions are correct, then that’s potentially 3 wins from the next 7. That would see us finish 12-11, not a cert for finals.

If we can beat the Tigers and close at 13-10, then that might make us a lock.

Thoughts?

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

I'm afraid I agree.
Injuries have just hit the threshold of unsustainability.

I reckon we will win 2 more.

But you never know.

Should beat Suns who are currently more worried about proving they can keep Dew despite the noise

I reckon RtB has got us primed to lose every game.
It's obviously what he wants.
He knows who he wants to cut .
He knows who he wants to target during trading
Just needs to improve where we sit in the draft

If they can maintain the game style they played last night St Kilda are a strong chance to win the next 4 matches which would secure a top 8 spot.

It's interesting to note that St Kilda won more games earlier in the season while Max King was unavailable than since he's come back into the side, which suggests that without the big gun tall key forward the team will open up more scoring opportunities for the other forwards.

But I personally won't be upset if they don't, I have seen enough so far this year to indicate that under the new coaching panel the Saints are on track to be far more successful in 2024 and beyond.

Have hit low tide on injuries.
Billings will get fitter/better, adds class.
Jones looks primed for a big back half season
Hayes lurking
Clark into the middle
Cordy looked good until KO'd
Campbell knocking the door down
Brad Hill back
Battle back.
Higgins back
Phillipou took a couple of marks
Owens going from strength to strength
Steele coming really good
Gresham at least looked more interested in the Melbourne game. Realises club's offer is take or leave it, no never mind to us the way you are going
Penny seemed to drop for Byrnes last night
Stocker back to form
Caminiti (excuse spelling) is going to start hanging on to a few of those spectacular efforts
Nasiah is a bone fide star now
Coaches have had pride and professional abilities to improve a side questioned . Ross finally got serious in a presser when taunted by some drop kick from the burbs.
Good on the road
We will come home strong
We will be playing for 5th spot every week now and melbourne will need to keep winning to hold us off 4th.

We just need to out trying tin every game we are in.

I thought the 23 match season may disadvantage teams like ours, as the younger players tire and older ones succumb to injury, and the last game of the season being Brisbane interstate could be the one which actually pushes us out of the top eight.

On form the next four are all winnable. None of them are going spectacularly, and losing to sides like Brisbane, Melbourne and Richmond by 20 odd points in the last five games is certainly not a terrible form line for us.

Put a few wins together starting next week and who knows...?

No chance of making finals. Should slip a fair way out from here.

Looking forward to trade time to see what Ross's plans are to build his list.

I come from a different criteria

Sides will fall out of the finals race because they lose games - not win

Hence I am looking at the sides who have to date lost 7 games and then the sides who have lost more than 7 games putting a line thru contenders courtesy of the increasing number of losses

The magnitude of the losses and to who is also factored in

So there is a credibility factor which waxes and wanes

For example I am tempted to put a line thru Fremantle because of the magnitude of their loss and that it is at home

The disaster losses are at home for sides still in contention and any losses against contending sides which have more losses

So GCS have the advantage of a home game

And St Kilda have the requirement because GCS have lost more games than St Kilda

The other disaster losses would be against those sides already with a line thru them because of the number of games they have so far lost

You lose position because you lose games

We might win one more game for the year. We'll finish 14th. If we can trade Max for Pick 1, we should do it and pick the best onballer available - you know someone like Petracca was 8 years ago. He beat us last night. He's in our team, we win by plenty. But, he'll never be a Saints player. Let's try and get the next Petracca without having to finish last.

Only a brave man/person would put up a thread that says; “Trade Max King”

Realistically, he’s worth a top 5 pick. Number 1 pick is pushing it, although we could take along a video of Tom Boyd’s highlights in the 2016 Grand Final when we are closing the deal

Good luck with convincing fans and the current coaches and the board at St Kilda that we should get rid of a KP Forward for a top 5 draft pick.

Interesting that Marshall has been best on ground the last two weeks and co-incidentally there’s talk of trading him. Unfortunately we can’t pump up King’s value because he can’t showcase his talent any more in 2023

You have to also remember that Lethlean was a key character in getting King on to the list. So, any move to trade King is like getting Lethlean to admit it was the wrong call

Of course the best part of the year was at the start when King and others did not play.

The Gold Coast game looks like the crucial one. I feel our season really hinges on that result. Win and we go on a roll. Lose and things could fall apart quite easily.

I recommend having a look at Squiggle.

https://squiggle.com.au/ladder/

It's predicting just over 50% chance we finish top 8 vs bottom 8.

I won’t be upset at all
If we don’t make finals it’ll appease those that hate Lyon but don’t have the balls to say they wish we kept Brett…😂
Final’s irrelevant
Yes nice for kids to line up and sing national anthem but we are making up numbers
Get into the draft as high as you can
Get best mids available
Stop this 6-12 madness of the last decade it’s rubbish

Understand what you are saying however we are at a position where we will either just miss or just make, meaning minimal difference in draft position, therefore the experience the younger players will get lining up in final, big crowd, added pressure will be invaluable - and if we play the WB( my predictor has this) i actually think we could win.

Do you want Pick 6-7, or pick 9-11 plus a game of finals experience for the whole list.

I'd take the second one every time.
